Cabela’s use to have a “classic” line of fly rods like that a few years back. Sounds like fun!

I have a battered 9' 10 weight Fenglass rod that has a serious history (had it since about '80) of salmon behind it. Some guides are long gone and it has just flat been hammered, but it could fish effectively tomorrow! Calling the action gentle would be too fast. wink

Ebay is still the best source for old Fenwick Rods. I am a fan of Fenwick myself.

One of my favorite small stream rods was a 6' 6wt Fenglass. With a DT line that was a beauty to roll cast in tight quarters. Unfortunately broke about 3" off the tip, replaced the top guide but it would not cast the same.

I see Fenwicks come up for sale there pretty often.

Fenglass or Feralite? (modern production, or "legacy" 60's-70's era)

I'm not sure that length/weight is still in production but Cabela's carries the Fenglass rods. Might be worth checking their site to see if anything close enough to suit you is available.

Thanks, I will be checking ebay, and the new Fenwick glass rods are not quite what I wanted.. I wanted a used or new rod from the 70's or 80's.. I have quite a few, but the 8.5 6# is my favorite for much of my fishing... Just would like a spare..

Gotcha - the specific model is the FF856? If so, then send me a PM.

My all-time favorite casting rod is an HMG856. I bought it from REI in Seattle on the day they opened. It is a very old rod!

I understand the appeal of those old Fenwicks. Have and still use an old Fenwick FF80 (Fenglass variety) loaded with a 1495 medalist and 8 wt line. For the first 50 or so years of its life I ran a 7 on it, mostly for smallmouth in the upper Potomac and in northern New England. It (still) has an absolutely magic feel to it. These days it sees duty mostly as a light buggin' rod on small lakes and farm ponds.

As to the Cabelas glass rods of recent persuasion, I have wiggled those in the store and definitely notice a difference. Here's my comparison: the old Fenwicks (I have two to compare with, an admittedly small comparison set) seem to be a bit faster tapered than the new Cabelas ones, with less of a wet noodle feel. I like the Fenwicks way better.

WyoCoyoteHunter: I was born and raised just a couple miles from "Lake Fenwick" and have used and admired Fenwick Rods for 60 years plus now.
Not just because they were "home grown" but because they were quality made, good performing good looking rods.
I have Fenwicks from the 1960's, 1970's, 1980's and 1990's.
I have fly rods, spinning rods, trout sized on up through steelhead and salmon.
Never had a failure.
My father bequeathed to me his very early Fenwick spinning rod (circa 1959) it is kept in a place of honor in my man cave!
It is marked "Fenwick 180 - 6 1/2' - 2 1/2 oz."
I have made a note of your wants and put it in my wallet to aid in your/our search.
I am ALWAYS on the lookout for older Fenwick rods.
Good luck.

I have an 8 or 8 1/2 footer but I thinks it's an 8 wt. Pretty sure I still have the case and sleave.
