for true, i'm a squirrel hunter. tall 200 foot yellow poplars at the head of hollers.

12 guage stoeger w/30 inch barrels should reach out.

btw, i found a 20 guage stevens bolt gun.

now thinking about the 12 guage stoeger.

anything abjectly wrong with it?

3 inch chambers, which is good.

need a gun-toter to carry it through the woods?

Barrel length isnt going to help you "reach out", choke will.

Somewhere I heard said "I'd rather my daughter work in a whorehouse than have a son that would shoot a squirrel with a shotgun".

people have opinions for sure.

i've kilt them w/a mdl 572 fieldmaster .22 rf. (yes, it works).

and firstly with a ss 20 guage bolt action stevens. (yes, it works).

when i was ets'ing from ft. hood, one of the civilian check-out people said georgia had a lot of pretty women.

i responded that texas did too. lol.

based upon my experience a shotgun kilt squirrel and a .22rf harvested squirrel tastes exactly the same.

my silent tree dog, Trixie, would hunt during the day when i was in school, and bring the squirrel to the house.

usually, if it was fresh, i'd skin it, and Grandmom would cook it. but not everytime.

Buy the Stevens, you can trust the gun will work correctly. The Stevens gun is an inexpensive gun which should not be confused with cheap. Cheap O/Us are just that - cheap. It's been hashed over and over the problems with cheap guns. Stoeger is a cheap gun and tend to fail with use. The problem is, no one knows when, just that they will. Odds are breakages will begin sooner rather than later and when one part goes others will follow.

I've been down the cheap gun path more than once and could have bought some rather decent guns with the money I spent. I can't truly say "wasted" as I did learn some lessons doing so. Unfortunately, I entered this path when the names Stoeger, Charles Daly, et al still had a reputation for good to high quality products. It's been 45 years since those days and the names attached to low quality products are all that is left.

Buy the Stoeger if you have at least 3-4 Benjamin's to spare: that is about the minimum loss you will see with that gun. It is very possible it could cost you more than that.

i've got a couple of stevens SS, both good, one a 20 and the other a 12 bird/rabbit gun.

they've been dependable if not so slick & light.

but they work, every single time.

i held off on the stoeger.

for sale at bass=pro.

I agree with the thing about not letting my son shoot a squirrel with a shotgun. Be Well. Rusty
