We finally got the last of the 3rd cutting up late yesterday. Light rains after it was cut. Not the best year to make hay.

At least you got it up.

If it doesn't rain soon, there won't be a 2nd cutting here. One of my good friends is in the hay business, and hasn't cut beyond the first cutting yet.

Cows are gonna need it, too.

Unless it is irrigated alfalfa. Most fields around here get only one cutting of good grass hay. Even in good years. The might be enough grass left to pasture a bit but not enough to pay for running machines over it.

When I lived near Albuquerque I had access to ditch water and I could get 5 cuttings a year off of alfalfa

Should have been at it a month ago but got behind on the river bottom.

Second cut and trit and oats are up. Alfalfa is still growing to beat the band with this heat (under the pivot). First and second were over 5 tons/ acre. Looking to beat last years 7 ton number. County average is 3. Fish poop grows lots of hay!

Fish poop from fish farm, or just the river?

Straight from the fish tanks into the pivot and wheel lines. We haven't fertilized one field for 20 years now. The only thing I haven't done yet is make it "organic". Probably because the thought of having to deal with the USDA makes me nauseous....

You run some sort of siphon system to get it into the irrigation lines?

And yes, it will grow good stuff.

Yes, but we actually re-dilute the sump lines with the raceway water, or we end up with problems at the dragon filter, the booster pump or the nozzles themselves. There’s only so much crap the system can take......

Off season the sumps get flushed into a holding tank for the honey wagon, or re-diluted during the season.

good on you. No sense not using a good source of fertilizer.
