ODESSA — An Alice man was injured during the shooting rampage in Odessa Saturday where 22 people were injured and seven people died, according to a source close to the victim.

Robert Cavazos had been in the Odessa area for approximately a week working with an Alice oilfield company. He had just gone on a lunch break when the shooting broke out.

According to the source, Cavavos’ company vehicle was shot at and the bullet struck him in the stomach. He underwent surgery and is recovering, the source said.

Cavazos’ family was notified.

The shooting began after troopers attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The suspect began shooting randomly. Victims range in age from 15 to 57, according to published reports.

Police confirmed that the shooter, 36-year-ol Seth Ator of Odessa, was killed by officers at the Cinergy movie theater in Odessa.

I think your first "had" is overstated. The report I saw was, the bad guy fired from his own car before it even stopped rolling. That is not "had" him, in my book.

Agreed. Maybe not the right wording, but the shooting couldn’t have been reported any quicker.

That’s the exact point I was trying to make. In other words, I’m afraid it couldn’t have ended any faster than it did, once it started. Chaos ensued and sadly people were killed n

16bore, the cop bashing is so fast and furious on the 'Fire that I misinterpreted your post and jumped to an incorrect conclusion. I believe Barry my have done the same. Apologies...

In Campfire style, it's the cops fault.

From what I've seen the LEO's did a stellar job.

The shooter appeared to have been pursued by numerous cops from numerous agencies.

They stopped his progress and promptly killed him.

3 cops were shot in the process.

I fail to see how you could have taken what I said as offensive, and a challenge.

I wonder if this might be the scenario. The man got fired that day, we know that. Maybe he made some threats and his employers called the police and asked them to be on the lookout. Police being proactive stopped him on the pretense of a signaling violation (not often done). Shooter had in fact armed himself and was planning a revenge attack on his boss. When the cop stopped him he said "I've had enough" and started this rampage.

I am so Sorry innocent people lost their lives but IF they were carrying(firearms)....people may have been hurt but non would be dead.....YES it is possible.

IF we live in a country where more people are CC or OC... These psychopaths would think twice about hitting people with cars or shooting innocent people. my sympathy but protect yourself next time.

I have an El Paso High Slide headed this way for a 3" Model 36. May carry it more than my automatic 40 if I like how it rides.

That would make the most sense.

But then these shootings never “make sense”

He was obviously a deranged little SOB. Normal folks don’t go on a shooting rampage just because they got fired.

Sounds about right.

That is just about the way I have it figured too! I drive that stretch of road daily and you seldom see anyone pulled over, mostly because the troopers are too busy working crashes.

Yep. That’s what I see driving through Midland / Odessa at least once a week. The traffic is horrendous.

Odessa Police Chief Michael Gerke said 36-year-old Seth Aaron Ator had been fired Saturday from Journey Oilfield Services. He said both Ator and the company called 911 after the firing but that Ator was gone by the time police showed up. FBI special agent Christopher Combs says Ator’s statements on the phone were “rambling.”
