Looking for some real world load data for the 375-284 with 235 gr Speers. Would like info from someone who actually loads for this round. I've searched the net and find data for out dated powders and the heavy bullets. I started with IMR4895 and the 235's but hoping for a more accurate load than the 2.5" - 3" i'm getting.

284 and '06 cases are very close in case capacity. I'd suggest using 375 Whelen data with 5 - 10% reduction and work up from there.

Thanks MuskegMan, was hoping to find someone who has current data from a rifle actually in this caliber. Not much data out there for the 375 whelen either. Guess i'll try some 4064 next, at the price of 375 bullets was trying to cut down the search a little.

I have a 375-284, but it's iron sighted (untapped VZ24 receiver) with a 21" barrel so I'd be happy with 2.5-3"! I have shot 270 Hornady RN (I bought a ton of their blems when Midway was closing them out) over either IMR3031 and H4895 with a slight preference to the latter.

I checked my old QuickLoad notes and I saved a recipe where I chose H4895 as the best candidate with the 235s but haven't loaded yet.

What's your setup? Have you shot other loads which make you suspect the bullet or powder?

Fremont, it's actually a scoped XP-100 bolt action pistol. I was shooting the 200 gr Sierra flat point with IMR4064 into 1.5" but want to keep those bullets for my Marlin 375 Winchester. I have a bunch of the Speer 235 gr spitzers and really want to use them. I plan on trying the 4064 and IMR3031. I may also try some IMR4320. If I can get a consistent 1.5" load i'll be happy.

14.5" or 10.75" bbl? Have you measured your max COL with the 235 Speer?

I'd really love one of these in a Savage 99.

The barrel is 15" plus brake. I can seat the 235 gr Speer's pretty long. I'm seating them just deep enough to hold the bullet and they chamber fine.

Tried some R-15 at the suggestion of forum member, group was around 1.75" at 60 grains. Also tried some VV N140 that was very promising but need to load some more to see if I can duplicate the results. Pic of pistol attached.

Look up Doc Rogers on Specialty Pistols. He's hunted a lot with the 375-284 in an XP or do a search. I'd be surprosed if there wasn't some relavant data on there

brydan,

I got load info from Doc Rodgers several years ago but Larry likes the 260gr Nolsers with 4198. It doesn't shoot well the lighter bullets in either of my pistols Trust me I've scoured the net for load data and getting data from someone who actually shoot this caliber is rare.

The closest I could find was in Hodgdon's 26th manual, 1992-3, on the .375 JDJ which is based on the .444 Marlin case. 14" barrel, presumably in the TC Contender. Nothing on 235's but with 220s, max of 51-H4895 at 2214 fps;51- IMR4895,at 2196; 51-WW748 at 1965; 57-Rel12 at 2163. Other IMR and H powders were shown but gave lower velocities.

Well, Doc is always in close contact with J. D. Jones who built his XP’s. Have you called him?

Got to verify my load of VV N140 and it's a keeper. Shot 2, 3 shot groups at 100yds that measure just over an inch. Yes Reloader28, as stated I've talked to Doc many times. He likes the heavy bullets and 4198. My 2 pistols didn't care for 4198 with the 235's. The 375 Scovil data from the Barnes manual is about the same capacity as the 375-284.
