Hello all, I’ll be traveling from Richmond into Tennessee and wondering if there are any “must stop” gun shops? I’ve been to Green Top ands few others on the way up. I’m a blue steel and walnut guy and looking for that rifle I didn’t know I needed.😜 An suggestions on good shops along the way much appreciated! Thanks, Rick

If you're going I64 west towards I81 south, you could stop at Dominion Outdoors in Fishersville. It's 1/2 mile off the exit. Pretty big selection and lots of blued/Walnut.

Jack, That one is on my list. Stayed in Staunton Friday night but hung out at Mrs. Rowe’s a bit to long. Thank you for the suggestion, Rick

Buds Gunshop and Smoky Mt Knife works are just off I 40 about 7 miles north of Knoxville. Close enough to park in one parking lot or the other and walk to both.
Most people don't really want the truth.
They just want constant reassurance that what they believe is the truth.

JMR, I’m familiar with both and actually visit them often. I should have mentioned I like older stuff. Not much new production stuff excites me. Thank you for the suggestion, Rick

Note that New River Sports in Draper Va. is known to be anti 2nd amendment due to the fact that they have a no guns sign on the door and this includes concealed carry. I will not do business with them. You may feel differently.

It is my understanding that they do not allow loaded guns (understandable) or concealed carry in their establishment. There was an article in the local paper a few years ago with the owner stating his policy of no concealed carry. I have not personally been there even though I drive by it many times during the year. If the OP stops in maybe he will confirm the fact or not that they allow conceal carry.

If they don't allow concealed carry I wouldn't spend a dime there.

Greentop and Dominion are two that come to mind. There used to be several small shops in Charlottesville that surprisingly had very nice rifles. It's been years since I was there though, so no idea what's there now.
Mahoney's has 2 locations in Abingdon and Johnson City, but they rarely have any used rifles.
JFloyds in Sevierville has some nice used rifles from time to time, but it's been some time since I last visited.
Although about 30 minutes out of your way, there are a few good shops in Princeton WV, that I visit when I'm in town.
SIA Firearms in Knoxville used to have a great selection of used rifles, but recently one of the owners sold his interest and when I visited last week, they didn't have the selection they've had in the past.
I don't know if that has anything to do with the ownership or just a sign of the times with slow sales, but in the past, I've found some great bargains there.
Crossroads in Knoxville occasionally has a nice used rifle or two.

If they don't allow concealed carry I wouldn't spend a dime there. The VCDL, Virginia Citizens Defense League, have them on their gun unfriendly list, so I assume the information I had is still correct. That is the very reason I have never been in there.

Thanks guys for all the information and suggestions. I’m going to try to make 300 miles tomorrow and with the several stops along the way I think I’ll have a full day, but it should be fun. Take care, Rick

Be safe Rick. I-81 is a nightmare anymore. At least til you hit Lexington and I-64 West breaks back off. State troopers were [bleep] everywhere yesterday. Bet I saw 20 people pulled over in 6 1/2 hrs of driving.

I believe the "no loaded guns" sign at New River Sports is a result of a few idiots pulling loaded carry pieces as they dig through the holster display. Know for a fact that the owner is pro second amendment just because of the amount of time and money he gives to the NRA and conservation group banquets every year. I also know for a fact that the owner will not be offended if anyone is offended by his sign.
