Wanting a new Kimber Classic Select in .270 Winchester but concerned about accuracy issues. Is it worth taking the risk? I also thought about a Model 70 Super Grade or a Montana ASR.

The Kimber will be noticeable lighter than either of the other two. My 270 Classic shot MOA easily,better with its preferred hand loads. My Select 30/06 shot just about everything well. MOA or better. Pick a Select with a nice handle on it and you should be able to trip it should you decide you don't like it. Give me a holler first.

The Kimber will shoot as well if not better than any other rifle. The question is can the man behind the trigger shoot a 5-6 lb rifle as well as he can a 7-8 lb rifle.

A fair question. I shoot my Tikka pretty well and it is very light.

Should make a dandy hunting package with such an effective and friendly caliber. I place great value on "carrying characteristics."
My brother brought his shiny new Kimber Mountain Ascent down to my hunting camp last weekend to break it in. After the 5th shot, the it continued to extract ok, but would no longer eject the empty case. So, it it off to Kimber for repair. They picked up the freight both ways, but.....
Ammo was a box of Hornady 165 gr Zombie ammo. Shot the box up and accuracy was absolutely stellar. The stock design made recoil nicely manageable, much like you would experience with a 270.

Great rifles........I would buy it without hesitation.

A long action 84L at 6lbs 2oz naked will come in over 7lbs scoped and loaded.

It should be really close to your Tikka, so you should shoot it well.

Way too bad Kimber has such limited choice of chamberings for the Classic Select. How hard is it to run different chambering reamers for pete sake? I ended up settling for a Montana because of limited options in Classic Select.

I played with a Kimber Hunter in .308 today and a Super Grade today. I think I’m going to buy the Classic Select.

No way in the world will I buy another Kimber

I owned 2 kimbers years ago and they were terrible. Won't own another. However, I read good things about kimbers these days, so why not try one. I did have a m70 super grade in 270win and while it was heavier than a kimber, it was very accurate. Small sample.

After dealing with Kimber "customer service" over the last few months you could not give me a Kimber. Too many incredibly idiotic things done to one rifle to believe. And they seem to lack the very basic ability to run something as simple as a "no go" gauge. The list is unreal. Several posters from here have put them in the rifle and found the headspace excessive...

I bought a Kimber Classic Select about 3 years ago at Whittaker's. Put a Leupold 6x36 on top. Easily 3 shot MOA with Nosler Trophy Grade 130gr NAB's. Gave it to a grandson. Gave him the choice between the Kimber Select or a custom Mauser in 7x57. He chose the Kimber due to lighter weight.

I have seen a lot of inconsistency in Kimbers, some of it by cartridge and some seemingly random. Great bedding jobs and sketchy ones, well cut chambers and very oversized ones, short and long throats. Some actions are very true and thus very heat tolerant, others aren't. It is a bit of a lottery. I like Kimbers, but that's the way it is.

As long as you're comfortable measuring a chamber and loading ammunition specifically to fit it (which will likely be larger than a sizing die designed to produce SAAMI-size ammo) then in my experience you can always achieve MOA accuracy on a string of cold bore shots. Shots when hot, not necessarily.

Yup - Kimbers are notorious for closing on a no-go gauge.

It's not really a problem if you just fireform your brass and resize it long, but you often end up needing separate body, shoulder bump, and neck dies to get a case that really fits the chamber without getting sticky when fed..

Gotta decide if that pound and a half is worth it... I think it is and my primary rifles are classics in 7mm WSM and ..325 WSM. But I won't pretend they're not a bit screwy. I"m sure the 7mmWSM would close on no-go.
