I had some custom jacketed bullets made. They're all 275gr 6S FN. Anyone point me in the direction of safe load data? Is it safe to use the starting loads for 250gr bullets?

Thanks, Dinny

Not much data for 275s in the 348. I think Hawk makes a 270, but the only data available is if you work it up in Quick Load.

I started with H4895 by using Hodgdon's 70% rule. 42 grains got me 1835fps. I will continue going up until my chrono results tell me to stop, I lose accuracy, or I hit 2000fps.

Thanks, Dinny

Here's what QL says about H4895 with the 270 Hawk bullet if it helps:

Cartridge : .348 Win.
Bullet : .348, 270, Hawk FP
Useable Case Capaci: 59.320 grain H2O = 3.852 cm³
Cartridge O.A.L. L6: 2.795 inch = 70.99 mm
Barrel Length : 20.0 inch = 508.0 mm
Powder : Hodgdon H4895

Predicted data by increasing and decreasing the given charge,
incremented in steps of 2.0% of nominal charge.

M1,
That data seems to be alot faster than what I'm getting in my rifle with these bullets. I can provide my COAL, bullet length, etc if you can build a custom template in QL. Getting a BC might be a problem though.

Thanks, Dinny

I can punch it in. You can adjust the burn rate to velocity but it is a different bullet, maybe with different jacket metallurgy so I can't say how accurate it may be adjusting it to the Hawk but at least give you something to work with.

My bullets are 1.201" long and my COAL is 2.765".

Adjusted for your velocity and OAL. Your bullet is not the Hawk and I don't think I'd trust the data and take it with a huge grain of salt. FYI the max for all 250s shows about 48 grns (47 by Barnes data).

Cartridge : .348 Win.
Bullet : .348, 270, Hawk FP
Useable Case Capaci: 58.378 grain H2O = 3.790 cm³
Cartridge O.A.L. L6: 2.765 inch = 70.23 mm
Barrel Length : 20.0 inch = 508.0 mm
Powder : Hodgdon H4895 ?

Predicted data by increasing and decreasing the given charge,
incremented in steps of 2.0% of nominal charge.

That data is alot closer to what I experienced. The 40, 41, and 42gr loads I shot were real close to those values. I forgot to mention my barrel is 22" so that could account for some of the minute differences.

Thanks, Dinny

I adjusted the burn rate of the powder to match your velocity.

I shot up to 46gr today and everything looks good. The group was just under 1" at 50yds and my velos were still within 10fps of what was last listed. Next I'll run it up in .5gr increments to 47.5gr.

Thanks, Dinny
