More used history books for summer reading. Same rules apply: I don't do PayPal or credit cards, applepay, etc. but do take cash, personal checks made out to me, and MOs.
ALL PRICES INCLUDE SHIPPING TO CONUS ZIP CODES.
To order, put an "I'll take book(s) #s_____" as a "reply" to the ad thread. Then I'll reply to acknowledge your order, mark the book sold (SPF) on the ad as long as the system lets me edit the ad, and send you a PM with my name and address for payment. I try to ship the next mail day after your payment arrives (and let you know it arrived so you can track the books).
Please use PMs only for comments and questions, NOT for ordering.
TAKE $1 OFF THE PRICE OF ANY BOOK OR BOOKS YOU ORDER AFTER THE FIRST ONE!
WWII military histories
9) SPF "A Fighter Command Station at War: A Photographic Record of RAF West Hamnett from the Battle of Britain to D-Day and Beyond" by Mark Hillier.
10) SPF "The RAF at War" by Ralph Bouker.
11) "Tin Can Man" by E.J. Jernigan.
12) SPF "Victory in the Pacific, 1945" by Adm. Samuel Eliot Morison.
13) SPF "McCampbell's Heroes: the Story of the USN's Most Celebrated Carrier Fighters of the Pacific War" by Edwin P. Hoyt.
14) SPF "Escort Carrier, WWII" by Rick Cline.
15) "God's Samurai" Lead Pilot at Pearl Harbor" by Gordon Prange. Biography of the Japanese naval aviator who helped plan the Pearl Harbor attack and coordinated its execution from the air. He later fought thru Midway and other Pacific battles and planned an airborne IJN Marine suicide attack on a US B-29 base, but ultimately acceded to the Emperor's command to stand down and surrender. Left in defeated Japan with no samurai purpose, he ultimately converted to Christianity, but resisted postwar Japanese pacifism because of his fear of Russian domination of his homeland. Quality PB 365 pp. exc. cond. illus w/b/w photos. $6
World History topics
16) SPF "The Northwest Frontier of Rome: A Military Study of Hadrian's Wall" by David Divine.
17) SPF"Mutiny: A History of Naval Insurrection" by Leonard F. Guttridge.
18) "New Zealand Wars and the Victorian Interpretation of Racial Conflict" by James Belich. The British conquest of the New Zealand natives called "Maoris" was long and bitter, and has generally been considered both a conclusive victory with a positive result by British historians ("the winner writes history". But this New Zealand historian refutes those conclusions in a detailed account of Maori resistance and cultural survival. Quality PB 396 pp. exc/new cond. illus w/maps. $5
19) SPF "Russian Battleship versus Japanese Battleship: the Yellow Sea, 1904" by Robert Forzyk.
20 "Little Brown Brother: How the US Purchased and Pacified the Philippine Islands at the Century's Turn" by Leon Wolf. A Francis Parkman Historical Prize-winning history. A full account of the Philippine conflicts, first with the Spanish, then with various former allies among the Filipinos, then with Moslem separatists. The Spanish phase was largely a negotiated settlement after the destruction of their puny fleet and enough ground fighting to satisfy the honor of the "Dons." But the conflicts with and among Filipinos sputter along up into our times (my grandfather used his "trapdoor" there and my son his M-4). Wolf also details the bitter political battles in the US between "imperial" and "anti-imperial" factions in the government and public at the beginning of our "Philippine experiment." HB near new cond. illus w/many b/w photos, map. $6
21) SPF "Fatal Journey: the Final Expedition of Henry Hudson" by Peter Mancall.
22) SPF "The 78th Fighting Frasers: A Short History of Fraser's Highlanders" by J.R. Harper.
23) SPF "Churchill's Bodyguard" by Tom Hickman.
Thanks for reading my long post! DON'T FORGET to take $1 off the price of any book or books you order after the first one!
