Received a phone call from my outfitter for next weeks moose/caribou/goat hunt in northern BC. He said that they have received too much rain & snow this year to hunt with horses. The rivers and creeks are too high and dangerous to get the horses (two days) to the hunting camp. He has came up with an alternative plan. We will take a float plane into one of his four camps on lakes and hunt from there. We can move from lake to lake via float plane at his expense. We will have to hunt closer to camp without horses and packing animals out will definitely be more difficult. Guess this is all a part of hunting.
Just wish they would have sent some of that rain down here to Nevada.

I live in South east BC and it is dry, the North part of the province is not. If river crossings are not low water they can be treacherous and it is not uncommon to lose stock in high water. If you cross easily going in it doesn't mean you get out easily if it rains.
The North country is unlike our southern Rockies.
Good luck

The outfitter is unable to get the horses to the hunting camp from the main camp. It's a two day ride in and the numerous rivers, creeks and bogs are too dangerous for horses and riders.

I live very near the geographic centre of BC and can say without a doubt it has been a very wet summer which followed a heavy snowfall winter. With that said after a few back to back summers of evacuations from wildfires the rain was welcomed by many.

The option presented by your outfitter sounds like a good deal if there are animals in those areas at that time of year.
