Until the 6.5 Creedmoor came along it was the 243 and the 308. For my purposes, the 2 I shoot the most are the 223 and the 243.

I need a job description to determine "the best." My favorites, of those I own, are the 22-250 and 243 Win.

If it's not limited to .473 or bigger, the .223 (fast twist) has to be in it for me.....it's just so useful for hunting, easy on barrels, easy on the shoulder, low cost, low powder usage, lots of bullet options, etc.

It's a toss up on the next depending on how it will be used. 6.5 CM, 7-08, .308 would be in the running.....I'd probably go 6.5 since the "what suites you best" for me would be mainly deer hunting.

Good bullets properly placed always work, but not everyone knows what good bullets are, or can reliably place them in the field

6.5 Creed and 300 WSM covers things nicely in SA.

With a solid mounting system and scopes without known defects you have good tools to get the job done.

7mm08 and 300WSM are my two favorites. I think the .243, 6.5CM, and .300 WSM would make a great 3 gun battery though.

Just did a quick tabulation. It seems the 308 and 223 are still heavy hitters in the polls. Old school still rocks.

It is hard to imagine (outside of maybe coastal brown bears) what I would feel unprepared for at reasonable ranges if all I had in my cabinet was a .223 and a 7mm-08.
