I've had a online subscription with Wolfe for a couple years & it's coming up for an automatic renewal.

I don't want to renew but I see no online option to drop the subscription.

I tried to delete my credit card info , that didn't work.

They cannot be reached by phone.

How can I get this subscription dropped ?

Well you could try E-mailing the subscription lady but I've E-mailed her twice about not receiving my subscription and she said she'd fix it but hasn't happened yet.

And in the future don't sign up for auto renewal. It's supposed to save you hassle but often causes the opposite.

Why are you dropping this subscription ?

Just curious, I dislike the auto renewal business model.

I don't understand the "They cannot be reached by phone". I had reason to contact them just the other day. They answered promptly as they have in the past.

The online magazines are not very user friendly , at least not to me.

I got the print subscription to Handloader , that one is my main interest though occasionally I will buy one of the others from the store.

I did finally get through to them by phone and the young lady assured me that the online subscription would not renew , time will tell.

Magazine online subscription services are notoriously difficult to deal with. I've not dealt with Wolfe because I'm still old school and wait for the subscription notices in the mail. I did have an issue with DGJ. I paid online for a subscription a few years ago, had the confirmation email, had the credit card transaction confirmation and despite multiple emails and phone calls, never received an issue. No one ever answered the phone and not a one of my emails or calls were returned. I swore I'd never read their magazine again.

This comes up every six months or so. Go here and click on the subscription info email, or phone.

My "problem" with Wolfe was solved when they tried to auto-renew and my card had been replaced with a new one.

They asked me (email) for new card info and I declined.

StGeorger,

Scovill never "ran" the business end of Wolfe. He was an employee, the editor of the magazines so only responsible for their content. He had nothing to do with subscription services.

I have all of my subscriptions thru www.loaddata.com. Very good folks to deal with. Customer service has always been prompt & satisfying.

I have not seen the real scam mentioned here- the scam which almost all subscription services operate on, including your precious NRA.

They send you a renewal notice at the 9 month mark, figuring that you forgot when you signed up for your years worth of whatever. Then, if you renew at the 9 month mark, it resets your subscription to that new date. You just lost 3 months of service which you paid for. Guess what happens 9 months from the new date? Another renewal notice. If you renew at their suggestion, you are now out 6 months of services...but you have already paid for it.

If you are paying attention, you will see this scam being perpetrated on you. It is important to put down the smart phone and notice things.

I'm pretty sure when I pay for a year of Rifle and Handloader, I get a year's worth of issues.

That's why they always send me the renewal notice at the same time each year.

I doubt that I will renew my online subscription when it comes back up. Last time it renewed they had no problem processing the payments but it took two to three phone calls to get them to actually renew it so that I could log in. Now for the last several issues the online version isn't available until my local book store has had it on the shelves for 2-3 weeks,

Either this route or say you think your card has been compromised and ask for a new card which will give you a new number. Good Luck. Cheers NC

I joined up to Load Data last year but couldn't access it for about 2 months. It wouldn't let me log in. I was in email contact with Wolfe and they finally fixed it. However this year when I went to renew it somehow I've been signed up to the Online Magazine Subscription as well which I definitely didn't choose as I get the magazine subscription and have for over 20 years. I don't know if it was an honest mistake or just scamming me for extra money. I thought I'd keep it for a year and see if I like it but haven't looked at it once so will make sure I drop it next year. I'll drop Load Data too if it's a PITA like this.

I had this with a magazine once - they were totally incommunicado - problem fixed itself when I lost my card and was issued a new one. If this continues to be a problem then simply "lose" your card, yes it is probably a hassle but the problem will go away. Stopping payment may incur a charge.

Hey, most people don't understand how magazines are run! Unless it's a real mom-and-pop operation (like the on-line quarterly magazine my wife and I put together, RIFLE LOONY NEWS) there are generally separate departments running editorial and art (what goes in the magazine), advertising and circulation. But even with RLN, Eileen is the head editor and art director, circulation and subscription manager, and customer service person. I'm just an employee, what many people call these days a "content provider." (There are no ads, which makes everything easier.)

As a more general comment, I've been working for Wolfe Publishing since the early 1990's, and I call 'em with the same office phone number everybody else uses. Cannot remember when somebody didn't answer--unless it was outside of regular office hours, when I get a recording informing when to try again. (This happens occasionally, since Arizona doesn't bother with Daylight Savings Times, and Montana does.)

I've only had to call Wolfe Publishing twice in about 8-9 years. Never had an issue reaching them and got great service when I did. But I still get the paper version of the magazine too...

I switched to electronic last year. I got sick of getting issues three weeks late to AK. I miss having the issues in hand but the wife is happier about not storing them.

Good for you, they sent me to collections. I was up for my TS/SCI clearance in the military at the time, and after calling multiple times I got someone to answer the phone. The lady assured me they do not report to credit agencies. That was 3 years ago, and I never saw anything negative on my credit report.
