I hadn't bought a new vehicle lately and we were ready to get a newer version GMC SLT version of our 2010. The wife looked in the back and said, wait a minute, it only has one exhaust pipe. Deal breaker she thought because our 2010 SLT has four, which is actually dual with two pipes out of each muffler. I never noticed that until I've been looking around lately and darn few cars, trucks and SUV's have dual exhaust systems anymore. Back in my muscle car days everything had to have dual exhaust to get the extra horse power and besides it just looked cool. Engines today don't need to turn those higher RPM's and most of us are driving around at 1,500 RPM instead of 3,000, so I'm sure a single tail pipe is all that is needed. Exhaust systems end somewhere behind of the rear axle now and you don't even see them. With aluminumized pipe and stainless mufflers, exhaust systems last a long time so the extra water vapor shouldn't be a big corrosion factor. What happened to two tail pipes?

And then you have the other side of the coin, in that some inline-4's come with dual tips, mainly for looks. I know that's the case with my Honda and it's 2.0L Turbo.

There's so much emissions crap on cars and trucks today that you couldn't put dual exhaust on a vehicle if you wanted to.

Not without messing up the emissions system, ECU, and half the components tied into it.

Actually I thought it was going the other way - most of the cars I notice today have dual exhaust and its molded into the lines of the rear bumper, except for the Corvette which has 4 monsters in the middle

I guess it is different here, lots of vehicles have dual pipes exiting out the rear bumpers.

Dual pipes but still going through 1 muffler and 1 cat. It's just for looks.

Go buy one off the lot, brand new, then run some dual exhaust from the manifold, and tell us how the car runs then...

Duals or no duals, what we need is more noise. Vehicles aren’t loud enough these days.

Little bitty engines don’t have that much volume of exhaust to push out the tailpipe.

I ordered my 2019 Tundra with the TRD dual exhaust system. It is true duals, two mufflers, etc. It sounds like a 60s V8 with glass packs! After I drove one with duals, I had to have it on mine. It will make you grin from ear to ear to listen to it especially from 4,000 RPM up. I don't know if it helps mileage or power and don't care.

Im gonna say it is cost. One pipe from point A to B costs half as much as two pipes going the same distance.

Maybe an extra weight thing. No dual exhaust on the Ford trucks and no Toyota that I've seen lately. Even a high end Lincoln Navigator has a single. Honda V6's had the dual system, but their 4's had the singles. There is a lot of water vapor that doesn't get burned off quickly and even the police SUV I saw yesterday that should have been warmed up, dumped a couple of ounces out of the dual exhaust when it took off from a stop sign. Ending any exhaust short of the back of the vehicle might be a manufacturing plot to rust out the rear end so that you buy a new one.

New Ram trucks come with it. Hell, lots of new cars and SUV's come with it. My wife's Honda Pilot has it even and there is nothing high performance about that rig.
