Up for sale or trade is a custom rifle built on a Mauser Modelo Argentino 1909 action. Receiver is marked DEUTSCHE WAFFEN-UND MUNITIONS FABRIKEN BERLIN.

This rifle features fabulous wood with hand-cut checkering, a hinged floorplate and graceful triggerguard, nicely swept bolt handle and jeweled bolt and bolt release. Trigger is smooth, light and crisp, with no creep. The custom 22" barrel is tapered for beautiful balance, with the balance point at the front half of the floor plate - right between the hands. No maker's name is shown.

The cartridge is an American classic: the 7mm Remington Magnum. This cartridge provides a high-velocity, high-energy bullet that excels at long range, while at the same time, handloads can put it at the easy recoil level of a 7x57.

Think about what the metalwork would cost. I believe the Argentino 1909 action alone is an easy $350. Jeweling the bolt and bolt release adds another $100-125. A custom barrel is in the $300+ range, while chambering, installing and a really good blue job can add that much more.

A really good wood blank can run $500-700. Add shaping, inletting, checkering and finishing and you're far over $1000. And I haven't even begun to discuss drill and tap charges, Leupold scope mounts and rings, and optics.

THIS RIFLE HAS IT ALL!

It includes a period-correct sharp and clear Bushnell ScopeChief 4X scope with post and crosshair – an optic that rated among the best American-made scopes in its day.

PRICE? $875 plus shipping. "I'll take it" for the cash price posted here with details in a PM will beat all lower-price offers.

Trades are a possibility - I'm looking for a nice 20ga side-by-side, a Ruger new Vaquero in .357 mag or possibly a Winchester Featherweight in .257 Roberts, 6.5x55 or 7x57. Other interesting items will be considered.

This is an opportunity to own a true custom that will be admired for decades at a fraction of today’s cost!

According to my bathroom scale, 8.4 lbs with scope and sling.

Haven't shot it. Had all kinds of plans when I bought it, then the grandkids (4 of them) moved in, I went back to work and my free time went right out the window.

Do you know the gunsmith? Perhaps a name on the barrel or action?

No, there is no name on the barrel and the receiver has the original Mauser markings. There may be something under the stock, and once I get some free time, I'll take the stock off and put a magnifying glass to it.

Which Mauser 98 is it?? There should be a crest right above the 1909 on the top front ring of the action... The left side rail of the action should give the manufacture... Beautiful rifle. You don't see many nice custom mausers up for sale lately. I have several in my collection... Interested..

BigTuna431 -

Any markings on the top of the front ring are covered by the scope base.

The left side of the front receiver ring says, "Mauser Modelo Argentino 1909.", and the side rail says, "DEUTSCHE WAFFEN-UND MUNITIONSFABRIKEN BERLIN".

If you'd like closeup pics, PM me your phone number, and I'll text them to you - that's a LOT easier than posting them here!

Blair - factory reduced loads that move a 140gr bullet at 7mm-08 speeds are available, and if you handload, you can go from popgun loads to 7x57, to .280 and 7mm Mag, and everything in between.
