This book is written as a true narrative of a former SS officer who, with many other German soldiers, joined the French Foreign Legion after WW2 had finished. Since the SS were often tried as war criminals many left the area and one way to do that was via Switzerland, then on to somewhere else. The book has been thought to be a fabrication and not true by some and is generally sold as fiction but it is a very interesting book to read as the descriptions of the end of the war in Europe and the aftermath and then the combat descriptions in the Foreign Legion in Indochina are gripping.

There is quite a bit of justification for what the Nazis did, as expected, and some of the views of the Germans regarding Communism were telling. And prophetic.

Worth a read whether it's fact or fiction.
