I went out with a 416 Weatherby today. I tried the GS custom 330 grain HV bullet. I can't believe I got 3150 feet per second and well over 7000 foot pounds of energy at the muzzle and under moa to boot what a rifle that ClassicMark 2. Close to 90° Fahrenheit right now so I had to use the chamber Chiller great investment

Looks like it will work in gophers!

Have plans to try the 400 grain bullets?

Fotis,
I used to own a .416 Wby, in a Euromark-stocked version. It was one of the most accurate rifles I have ever owned, shooting way-sub MOA groups with about anything I fed it.
I had plans to take it to Africa, for Cape Buff, Lion, etc., and tried working up some Rigby-velocity loads for it that I could shoot without the brake.
In spite of somewhat reduced velocities, that rifle would recoil so hard without the brake that you could feel it in your jawbone, as your teeth were slammed together! More than 10 rounds at a time was a guaranteed headache for me.
My search for a suitable DG rifle with less recoil, weight, and ammo expense led me to a Ruger Hawkeye African in .375 Ruger, which has worked admirably well on buffalo, lion, and other large plains game species.

I sent the rifle down the road, and recently sold my remaining brass and dies, but it would no doubt be an absolute killer on Cape Buffalo or Elephant.

I'd rather be a free man in my grave, than living as a puppet or a slave....

Nice shooting for a thumper rifle and the Classic Mark is my favorite Weatherby model.

2 friends had ClassicMark rifles. One had a .378Wby w/no brake, the other a .416Wby with a brake. Neither were at all pleasurable to shoot.

We need pics of the cartridges to do justice to this thread.
