Any new aftermarket goodies for the mini?

I’d love to get one but that POS stock and plastic fugly bottom metal keep me away. Hoping someone has found better non proprietary bottom metal and a better trim stock?

B&C made a Medalist stock for them. Nothing new in the bottom metal department.

I bought one a few months ago to use as the base for a custom build... but I should have researched bottom metal options first. I ended up selling the gun because I couldn't get over the "fugly" (perfect word for it) bottom metal and couldn't find a replacement.

In my opinion, the Howa Mini would be the PERFECT base for a 6.8 SPC build... once more stock and metal options are available.

I gave up on the Mini for the same reasons, bought a couple of Remington model 7's and won't look back.

DIP has a machined bottom metal to replace the cheap plastic one, as well as a reconfigured mag release. There was a guy over at 65grendel.com that was working on a hinged floor plate but that is coming along slow. Best you can do to make it close to a flush bottom is to modify a factory 10rd magazine and make it a 4rd mag and it sits about even with the DIP bottom metal.

I was going to try the B&C stock but some guys on 65grendel forum were having feed issues with them. I think one guy figured something out by replacing the mag spring with one from a Howa 1500.

Also - MDT released an Oryx chassis for the howa mini fro $399- https://oryxchassis.com

Now I could see myself buying a Mini set up like that one.

And all along I thought you used nothing but non-powered hand tools, like the days or yore.

A few months back someone at Legacy told me in an email that blind mag and/or floorplate versions were in the works, negotiation with Howa. Keeping my eyes open for that. The acquisition of an Alpine that goes about 7 1/4 pounds with a 1 pound scope has me pretty well fixed, but there remains a bunch of 6.5 bullets, Grendel brass, and dies to torment me.

Check the spec charts in the latest catalog. Looks like they're coming around on twist rates in .223 anyway.

Brownells has barreled actions and their own walnut stocks. DIP has that decent guard and release.

I got this response when I asked a couple months ago about a floor plate.

Good morning, I hope all is well. Unfortunately we do not have a hinged floor plate option for the Mini Action at this time.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you,

A big issue on the hinged floorplate/blind magazine is the opening in the action is a bit skinny to make it easy to load from the top.

What are the minis going for?

Local shops seem high around here. Marked "clearance" at $500+

Seems the sa and la Howas get marked down to $350ish pretty regulary.

Brownells sells the barreled actions, some are on sale low enough that you might be able to tweak it to your liking for a bit less than if you started with a complete one.Their walnut stocks are about $215, for instance.

I might dress up my 7.62 a bit when my grandson is through with it. DIP guard and release, maybe the Brownells stock. That wouldn't be the same as buying another rifle, right?
