Anybody hearing any bugles yet? I didn't hear anything over the weekend in SW Montana but have heard from a couple others that said they heard a couple. Should be heating up within the next week or so.

I thought I heard a lone bugle the other morning in the wee hours. I was about half asleep and didn’t hear it again. Happy Trails

My wife and I are heading to my elk hunting area in a couple of weeks to set the camp trailer. They should be in full rut and singing their songs by then. Can't wait.

Found a drainage full of bugling bulls this weekend, but they were not interested in coming to calls. Sounded like they were all just letting each other know where their territory was. We had 5 bulls sounding off but coming no closer. Wind prohibited us from moving in.

I've been waking up to bugling bulls for about two weeks. Just about every morning at about 6:30.

Heard a couple bulls right at dark last night. Pretty quiet for the most part.

No bugles yet, but did see a dandy seven-pointer in Lewistown yesterday, being paraded up and down mainstreet.
I retired from the Johns Manville asbestos pop tart factory in ‘59, and still never made the connection.—-Slumlord

Bow hunting on south border of colo. Very little bugling. Saw a monster bull yesterday morning. Guide bugles and he answered. They screamed st each other for 30 minutes, but he would not come in bow range. Four of us hunted this morn. One guy heard two bugles, the rest of us, nothing.

Just got back from the Co Flat tops. Cows on top, a couple (good) bulls bugling from the bottom of a hellish steep and deep drainage. My youngest went down to chase them 3 different days, they would respond but not come close, just move off with their cows. Youngest did have 2 bulls fighting about 80 yards away but couldn't get in because of all the cows around. My oldest son took a cow up on top. Going down to the bottom of those hell holes are for the young.

A bachelor group of raghorns came in at a run to cow calls. My 14 year old son got the shakes so bad that he shot low at 40 yards.
A few days later, a big herd bull started rutting and bugling hard. I got to within 45 yards for several minutes, but no shot presented itself due to the thick scrub spruce.
A few days later, my truck broke down while crawling up a steep, rocky grade. (rear differential grenaded. No parts salvageable, $2k to replace, but I'll be hunting again Friday.)

Hunted six days starting the 8th in south Colo, on NM border. Heard very few bugles. Did find one bull that was bugling. Guide bugled and cow called him to 44 yards and I arrowed him. Ran 30 yards and was dead. Four hunters in camp, two kills. The other kill was from a tree stand, no bugling from him. I think it’s a week or so before they really start lots of bugling.

I was hoping to get out this weekend but the wife and I are in the middle of moving so it was a no go. I get 3 days next weekend and 4 the following so I should hit the peak at least.

Went up last night to camp. Nothing talking. Walked in before daylight and still heard nothing.

The guy I hike with in the mornings has been hearing them, but I can't hear them unless I have good fresh batteries in my hearing aids! This time last year they were going strong a couple miles out of town. Went out this morning(Monday 9/16) with fresh batteries and heard 3 different Elk bugle. Also as a bonus, we had a sow and two cubs cross the trail in front of us.---Black bears! Nice day!

Hot and dry around here. Only bugles belong to hunters - and there are tons of out of Stater's around this year. Not looking good.
