I think I found a nice load for my 700 CDL in 25-06 with Barnes 80grn TTSX for coyote calling this year. This was 61.5 grains of H4831sc at 3.125 OAL and 3.175 OAL (100 thou jump and 50 thou jump). Last spring I tried this same load at 3.090 OAL and it did about an inch. I am going to go back to the range and try 49grn of Varget with these OAL's and see how that does. 49grn of Varget at 3.090 OAL shot right around an inch in this rifle. It would be nice to get it shooting Varget since most of my rifles shoot their best with it, but it isn't absolutely necessary. If that doesn't work I will just settle on one of these OAL's after more testing. I ordered the Hornady OAL case gauge, the max OAL for the 80grn Barnes in this rifle is 3.225".

That's a nice shooter!
pardon my bad reading comprehension about the Hornady OAL case gauge. Have you used it yet or waiting to receive it. I'm considering getting one and curious to how easy they are to use.

The Hornady OAL gages are pretty easy to use. Start with a clean chamber if the cartridge headspaces on the shoulder. Ensure the case is well seated (I generally rotate mine clockwise while lightly pushing it towards the muzzle). When pushing the bullet forward, do so lightly and take 3-4 readings to ensure consistency.

You will find surprising differences in COL even when the OAL gage for loaded rounds is consistent.

No, I'm not a Ruger bigot - just an unabashed fan of their revolvers, M77's and #1's.

A good .30-06 is a 99% solution.

Sorry, poor writing skills to blame lol......yes I already have the OAL gauge and it is very easy to use. I wish I would have got it years ago.
