So I needed a scope for one of the varmint guns, and drug out an old Leupold 3.5-10x40 from the back of the safe. Had it already mounted in Leupold QR rings, so I screwed some bases to the action, and snugged the scope in place.

Made a quick trip to the "range", set the target at 100 yards, and borescoped it on a rock.....close enough.....

Took a shot, visually measured it according to the 1/2" lines on the target, moved the scope 4 MOA down and 2 1/2 MOA left, which was supposed to get me an 1 1/2" high for a 200 yard zero.

Took a shot, looks good, took a second, same hole, took a third and opened the group way up to a .170"......

Piece of schitt!!!!

I don't always venture out into the sub-freezing darkness, but when I do, it is deer hunting season, and I carry a Remington. Stay hungry my friends.

Just took my Leupold scoped .223 out to verify zero last weekend. Hadn't put it on paper since this time last year. First group went into 1/2" at 100 yards exactly at 12:00 o clock and 1.5" high. Right where I left it last year. I don't know if it "tracks" repeatably and don't really give a damn as long as it stays zero'd.

Yup, I don't know how anyone puts up with those lousy POS scopes. Someday I may get rid of the 12-15 of them I have on various rifles....

That's definitely not the norm for most Leupolds. I have one like that on a 243ai, the rest I had burned up ammo trying to get the rifle sighted in.

Obviously, you need a SWFA SSSSS of some sort, the bigger the better, both objective lens-wise and magification-wise.

But, but, you forgot to crank it to the top then the bottom & throw it across the driveway.

Did ya haul it it in the bed of the truck across a power line road.?

OK? What do you think the two most popular SWFA scopes are for hunting? I'm pretty sure both have 42mm objectives and less than 10x.

I suppose SWFA did bring us this in an effort to maximize objective size:

I think you are supposed to crank it to the stops, then 1 turn extra, and then wind part to the other stop, plus 1 turn extra, using a screw driver bit in a drill - much quicker this way.

I have never needed more than a few rounds to sight in my Leupolds. I smell BS.

But I don't shoot according to the emotionally obsessed Leupold haters.

I've had a bunch like that in 70 years.

In the words, as told directly to me standing in his shop, of the number one ranked bench rest shooter at the time who was also the on the world cup team and is still a very big hitter, referring to Leupold scopes, "we use them to make weight but NEVER trust them". We also discussed how at the time some were taking all adjustments out of the scope, permanently affixing the reticle, and using adjustable mounts.

If shooting to a set zero, Leupold works great. I like them as a hunting scope. Go try and dial yardage back and forth out at distance and see how they track. My experience is that the Mark 4 3.5-10x40 I have does not track. It's been back to Leupold twice and comes back with the same issue. I won't buy Leupold for long-range target shooting. For hunting scopes, they're fine.
