Bought a Conquest V4. Just got it in last night unpackaged it and noticed a stamp in the bottom side of the scope that says “Japan”. I can’t find anywhere on Zeiss’ website that says these scopes are made in Japan. I’ll have to check tomorrow but I’m pretty sure my Conquest DL’s say “made in Germany” on them. Is this common knowledge? Just curious.

Yes, the V4 is made in Japan. The Duralyt and Conquest DL scopes were made in Germany.

Yes it’s Japan. You have to go v6 and above to get German build. It’s ok at least it’s japan. They make great scopes. It’s getting harder to get Japanese build these days. Love those v4 scopes

I've gone through three of the V4 3-12x56/#60 and have nothing but praise for that model. Considering all of its positive attributes, there's lots to like about it. The matte finish may not be as refined and polished as more expensive Zeiss models, but that certainly won't hamper the scope's optical performance.

Had I not stumbled upon a major closeout on some Docter scopes, I'd still have that last V4.

Bobby , how would that Zeiss compare to a GPO Passion 6x 56MM ?

The 2.5-15x56 GPO had higher resolution, better color rendition and was better in low light than the V4 3-12x56. It was a joy to look though and excelled in moonlight conditions. With that being said, the V4 is no slouch and performs quite well for the price point.

Sadly, though, the illumination system of the GPO didn't measure up and was far too bright, negating many of the wonderful optical properties the scope otherwise featured.

I spoke with Mike Jensen about this issue, and apparently it was even worse in earlier runs as he noted mine was from a later batch that had been toned down. But after several discussions via e-mail and an inquisition to his team in Germany, he had no solution to the problem, so I sent back the scope as it was of little use to me with illumination that glowed like a house afire.

Bobby,

Thanks for the response. I spoke to them(GPO) yesterday and they said that the illumination should not be an issue in a 30 minutes before and after sundown shooting scenario which is what I am aiming for(no pun intended).

For 30 before and 30 after, is is OK...unless you have heavy cloud cover. Then, when you get towards the end of legal shooting time (or the beginning if it's morning), you have illumination that can negatively impact your vision.

I really wish they'd correct this issue. How difficult could that be?

I have to look elsewhere, other then that feature they sound like a fantastic scope. There is a lot of cloud cover almost always and it is dark even without that cloud cover, . Very heavy vegetation at the edges as well and there is almost always a thick mist in some places when hunting evenings.

Any suggestions would be very welcome grin

LW,
I have a V4 in 4-16 and 4-24. Good scopes! Simple zero stop to set, if your dialing. Tracking on the 4-16x44 that rides on a 280AI has been excellent, so far. Glass is great.

I like them better than my Leupolds. I’m looking for a V6 3-18x50 at this moment at a good price. Yes, I think they’re a nice optic....

PM me if you have questions....😎
