Friend,

you're always goin' on about taxes.

what do YOU think a good tax rate should be?

overall like, as in total out of your income for the year?

we all need services, firemen, polices, paved roads or just grading, skools, and such, right?

or, should we all be responsible for those things ourselves, pave our own little section of road, teach our own chillins?

how much would you be "willing" to pay, 10%, 20%, 30% for all the benefits we get, assuming they are benefits and not drawbacks?

heh, dude. i wish i could conjure a more perfect answer. but alas, i can't. i think it all depends? more than one good answer??

in my self-interested world, i could go with 10 percent gross income. others would argue for 10 percent net income.

i would understand their argument, because there is the costs of operations involved.

sometimes, back in the day, i wish i had become a legal tax accountant.

but, alas, it wasn't meant to be. but taxes: what is a fair tax?

and what does it suppose to buy, at a fair market value?

taxes: and how is the appropriate rate achieved?

Well Gus,

I've got bigger fish to fry right now,

like some split firewood that needs to get in the shed before the rain tonight.

taxes, and the discussion thereof will have to wait a mite longer, maybe 'till dark.

15% of GDP.

There are certain services provided by government that can increase the rate of economic growth, enforce the rule of law and contracts, facilitate transportation such as roads, provide for a common defense, etc.

After that 15%, increased government acts as a drag on economic growth.

We need just enough government to cover the essentials, but after that, it's their duty to stay out of our way.

Add up the cost of everything in article 1, section 8 of the constitution. Divide that by the number of voters. Every voter pays their share.

After each illegal pays two shares.

Years ago before CNN became a full time lying Democrat/Socialist propaganda machine they did a study on the amount of taxes on a loaf of bread. From the farmer to the grocery store that loaf of bread had accumulated so many hidden taxes that it made up 93% of the cost of that loaf of bread. Our governments have LOTS of tax money to spend but it will never be enough. CNN also did a study back then about our elected Federal official's finances and found that almost all of them had homes and bank accounts (for that bribe money) in foreign countries.

our composite or collective taxes paid locally, county, city, state & fed are way too high.

we all know that. but we seem helpless in achieving very much change.

trump's admin gave us a bit of help, but not a lot.

demo's want to raise taxes even more.

we need drastic tax overhaul.

When any government body spends money, someone has to pay, now, or with inflation later.

OH, I have, many times

Ordered a "$29 a month" basic phone line in Juneau AK back in '07 or so. First bill arrived it was nearly double that with all the fees and taxes and surcharges on it. Simply amazing.

Wife and I don't make much money $100K < combined [would most likely be near poverty level in a large city with high cost of living] and I would guess that when ALL taxes paid are added up it's at least 45-55% of our take home.

i don't think i have a plan for fixin' it. but it does give an old man something else to biotch about.

our local congress critter is all for a fair tax or value added version.

but now, he might not even win for re-election next year.

if not, there'll be a demo taking his seat.

and we know what that means.
