A 100 way lightbulb will put off more heat then a goldenrod I use a simple clamp on reading lamp with a 25 watt bulb. It keeps the safe very dry and well lit when I open it. For someone with a lot of "classic" wood stocked guns it might keep the humidity to low....I don't know about that....but it works great for stainless synthetic.

I know a guy that keeps a pillow case full of saw dust in his gun safe claims it works as a dehumidifier

Strange, I live in the deep, dark South 90% humidity
My gun safes are in a concrete vault tornado room, no hvac.
Never had any rust. The overflow from the safe is in my safe room, which is below grade and it remains a constant 45-48% humidity
There are 2 rules to success:
1. Never tell everything that you know.

My first rod type was a brand called Dry Rod. After a few years it burst leaving some ugly crap on 2 nice guns. I thought they were ruined, but careful cleaning & polishing save one completely but an old 700 magnum still shows a bit of damage.
I now have a Golden Rod brand & it's been a good product.
