I have an opportunity to pick up a high standard field king first model ,those of you who have experience with THAT model what are your thoughts ,accuracy ,dependability, holster availability oh it has 6 1/2 " barrel

It ain't no Woodsman......

High Standards usually shoot really well, no question of that. However, it's hard to source any parts that might be needed, including any FUNCTIONAL extra magazines you might want or need. There are some aftermarket magazines available, but they have very spotty reputations. I don't have any High Standards, but a cousin of mine has several. He bought his when they were still in production, which was some time ago. They are all fairly accurate, which was something High Standard was famous for.

I don't think I'd buy one now, but it's your money. Holsters for the exact model might be hard to source now, too, but a holster for a Ruger Auto might fit, maybe. I'm sure one of those wretched Uncle Mike's nylon holsters would work, but who would want one?

For a .22 pistol to carry afield, I think that it is hard to improve on the S&W 2206.

Don't know about any other H-S .22 pistols, but the Victors made in Hamden, CT, had a good reputation as being equal to S&W 41s.

The Field King is a bottom rung compromised piece of schit and an easy pass. Hint.

The Smith 2206,is an over engineered Goat Fhuqk,that is ANYTHING but a Utility Pistole. The balance/handling is dog Schit +P+. Doubly so the "Target" version. Hint.

The 622/422's all wear S/S liners and alloy frames,so they shirk abuse well. That they share '41 mags,ain't all bad either...though their mag releases are VASTLY superior to same. Hint.

Ought to be at least as accurate as a good Woodsman, likely more (insert smiley face) . The feeding can be finicky but with a good magazine they run just fine.
Use standard velocity ammo only and it will last, but that is one of the big High Standard negatives if not just paper punching.

Uncle and myself have a decent amount of old High Standards. Most will shoot with ANY S&W 41 or Woodsman and I don't care what anyone says. I've got a 107 Supermatic tournament that i'm positive would hang with any comp pistol then and today. Its probably the most accurate handgun I've ever seen. In fact my Uncle ditched his 41 because it was too damn finicky with ammo. Just sayin. The worst part is unless u get a factory mag with it your gonna have to do some tweaking with the feed lips on aftermarkets to get them to run 100%. Like others have said u need to use standard velocity ammo also.

I have an old Sport King that's probably had close to a million rounds of ammo run through it since my dad bought it new in the mid 60's. There's not a hint of rifling left in it, and the main spring is weak, but it's still fun to plink with. Many a chipmunk and tin can met their demise to this fun little gun.
