In 2009, inspired by the .338 Campfire, I made a wildcat using 375 Ruger case, run in a 300 RCM die. I went through a divorce and had to sell off everything before I ever got to shoot it. I just recently got back into shooting rifles, and the 300 PRC was a surprise to me. My original estimates with Quickload, showed I would probably be able to get 3000 fps with a 200 grain bullet. The PRC seems to be living up to my estimates.

Any of you ever feel like a large company stole your glory?

Edit: this was meant in a humorous way by the way.

Back around '91-'92 I sent a mirror polished stainless Ruger Super Blackhawk in to have the ejector stud re-attatched. It was of course returned with the standard brushed finish.
A year or two later Ruger came out with the Vaquero in polished stainless. I couldn't help but think when my gun showed up, that someone didn't say.. "Hey Dave, come take a look at this..." wink

A buddy made a 6mm on the 22-250 case 30 yrs ago. It became the 6XC.

To be honest I am certain there were a bunch of guys who made that cartridge even earlier.

Look at the guys that necked the 284 Win up and down when it first came out in 1963.

while no company stole my glory, I have made a few that I am not aware that anyone ever made:

Took a 30 BR reamer and cut deeper to make a 30 BR front headspaced as a 308. 30 degree shoulder, less body taper, thin neck wall

A 358/338 RCM.

While not exactly a new round used a LA with a long throated 338 RCM to shoot the 300 gr Sierra and later when it came out the 300 gr Berger.

Not exactly. He (Al Gore) invented the Internet - just ask him.

Gore came up with the Creedmore first, then invented the Internet to extol its virtues. Unfortunately, Global Warming got in the way so the Creedmore had to wait a little while to get noticed.

Yep, did the 8mmx300 WSM. My son killed the first animal with that cartridge a 1 1/2. years before Winchester came out with the .325.

Wby stole the 6.5-300 idea from Wright and Hoyer who made them in the '60's for ultra LR shooting.

So, they already had data before their roll out. I think the 26 Nosler had an influence on their decision to produce this round.

Almost 20 years ago my friend said he wanted the ultimate big 5 rifle on a short action. I told him my friend that was a guide in africa and an animal control officer in Kruger said that 375s were great but he really liked 416s.

I stopped by my friends shop a few months later and he said you gotta check this out. He had a short action M70 rifle built in 416-300wsm. He said what do think? I then had to break it to him that on a big 5 rifle great feeding and functioning were paramount and that he should make sure it functions well.

He said it fed like crap and got mad at me for not telling him that earlier. I said I thought that need would be obvious and I didn't realise he was so serious about the short action elephant gun.

We ended up making a custom single stack mag box that center fed and worked it over and had it feeding really well. Twenty years later the guys never been to Africa. All the drama and tinkering for nothing but I'm sure it's not the first project developed around a pipe dream.

A handful of years ago, I'd been doing a bunch of reading on castboolits about 35 caliber bullets and how they seem to be many steps up on game animals over 30 cals. I happened to be out shooting with my brother one day and we were talking about the subject as we picked up a bunch of fired 223 brass that someone had kindly left for us. I started thinking as I picked up those cases that the case head size would be perfect for straight-walling into a 35 caliber cartridge. When I got home, I annealed the crap out of one of the cases, and opened it up to 35 caliber, running an expander way down into the case. Then I used a 357 sizing die to iron out everything nice and pretty, then trimmed it. Seemed pretty slick, and I started thinking about a Contender barrel, or even a bolt gun, utilizing that case. I thought about the 450 Bushmaster, and thought to call this new round the 350 Bushmaster.

Then I started looking at the case capacity. It was very similar to a 357 Max. Adding pressure would up the performance a bit, but not enough to get into the "cool zone". Then I remembered there was such a thing as a 357 Herrett, with a higher capacity than either case, found a cheap Contender barrel on eBay, and went from there.

The "350 Bushmaster" just wasn't much in terms of power or trajectory, and didn't warrant the investment of a custom reamer and the hassle of the work involved. Little did I know that ridiculous gun laws would push people into wanting one, and that Winchester would even standardize it.
