The rest is in very good shape, the stud is still there, just the ring is missing.
Were the originals cut, opened, inserted and then bent back?

I don't know the original process but yes, they were inserted in the stud then closed. Homestead Parts sells just the ring to install in your existing stud. They would probably know how to correctly install them.

It's not easy to get the ring to close up properly. You can buy a stud and ring already assembled and it will look better.

The only problem with that is that the stud is very unlikely to index horizontally as they came from the factory. Don’t ask me how I know this.

Somewhere I have a multi step pictorial/tutorial that demonstrates the process for closing a ring. I’ll try to locate it.
