You can use rain pants and duct tape.

boots and gaiters.

IF I had to use rubber it would be back to burly's but mountains and rubber boots, even schnees pack boots, just don't work for me.

I carry a pair of wiggy waders in the pack for situations these days.

Crossing fast water without a wading stick or two, even if its only 2 I just cut with my leahterman, is the only way to go IMHO.

BTW I've climbed quite high in sheep mountains with simms waders and keen non water proof hiking boots...

Oh yeah, gore tex is a full joke in anything. It will get you wet. Plain and simple. I've even had NEW goretex lined boots leak in creeks. I try to avoid the stuff if possible these days but often you have no choice. One reason I carry waterproof socks as one of my spares in the pack just in case.
