This is the latest in Johnson's Longmire series and in this book Longmire is back from his Mexican trip where he had to deal with the cartel people and he's back on the job and recovering from his wounds. Out on the job he's with some state fellows who are looking at a dead sheep and there's possibly a wolf in the area from the examination of the sheep. Walt starts looking for the shepherd and is up on the mountain and finds his place and then finds him. Hanging from a branch. Dead as can be with some predator evidence from gnawing on his feet. Suicide or murder? It's not clear.

The book is about the investigation. The shepherds in the area are interviewed, the owner of the ranch is interviewed and there is a whole string of bits of information that don't seem to be related but ultimately, Longmire puts the pieces together. It's a good book.
