He come to eat whatever was making that funny noise. Using "sound" within the spectrum of stealth hunting has always intrigued me and I use it where ever possible. What type of sounds does one make for bears? bleating fawn, small mammal distress? time of day matter? other?

Reminds me of the story of somebody asking a fisherman where he caught all those fish and the fisherman replying "right in the mouth"

The hard part is finding an area with bears.

Congrats Fireball on the deer! Hope your foot heals rapidly. You are so right about the .284 Winchester cartridge. That was my choice for my first deer rifle that I bought way back in 1966 and with it killed my 2 longest range deer, one 315 yards and the other 330. IIRC I was using 130 grain Speer over IMR-4350.....ah, memories. Foot is healing. Hiked back in there this afternoon and a bear had dragged the torso of the deer into the canyon but I bet he was within a few yards of there and I couldn't see him.

Hey Gnoahhh, there's your bear at about 20 yards in the third photo. He come to eat whatever was making that funny noise. Another came from behind. Then I had nightmares of bears climbing in the open tailgate of the truck to eat me so I shut the tailgate and canopy door about midnight. Anybody ever had a bear in the sleeping bag with em? Not me! You can see him coming almost dead center in the photo. I had a mouse bite me on the thumb in bed at deer camp a few years ago, does that count. We were in camp this past weekend. All the streams are dry as a bone, no acorns. Didn't see a single deer. But, I expect they will be on the hill in a couple weeks. Nice deer Roy, maybe I'll drive out soon. I'm retired and in no hurry, I'd probably take the Northern scenic route and stop in to see Steven, then up to Don's, over to Saddlerings, Oldotters, down to see Rory and Rick, head out to the coast and see Mike, then head on up. Don't know how many old fat guys will fit in a 6' bed? Almost forgot Gary, he volunteered to ride in the back seat all weekend, so he has dibs on shotgun heading west.
I'm not greedy, I just want one of each.
