I was just at a local pawn shop looking at guns. I found a model 24 in 30-30 over 20 gauge. It had synthetic stock and forearm. Never seen this configuration. It is being sold as used but I couldn't find a mark on it . It looked brand new.

The number is F950231.I got the number off the receiver dont know if it is a date code or serial number. I cant remember if the trigger guard is synthetic or metal.

I have been on Google looking for info.
Does anybody have an idea when it was made? What would a ballpark value be for a mint 24 in 30-30 over 20 gauge be.worth?

Thanks in advance on any help.
I think it would be a great addition to my 357 over 20 gauge.

Made in spring of 2001. Not new, but not antique'ish.

Don't know what the synthetic's go for, but the 30-30/20ga is a very popular configuration.

Thanks Calhoun. Do you know where I can find info on these guns?

For pricing, best place is to look at gunbroker at completed sales for pricing estimates. Then figure in shipping and FFL fee vs local sales tax. Might not find any for unusual configurations of 24's tho.

For general info, either here or there was a website for Savage 24.. yeah, still there. If nobody here can answer your question, www.savage24.com quite likely can.

Thank you Calhoun. The model 24s are the only savages that have really caught my fancy. The 99s are ok but too many configurations for me to know if it is a deal or not. I have watched you guys argue over $1300 dollar guns that I would only give 3 or $400 for for a shooter. I dont mean any offence I just dont understand the allure. Same as a lot dont understand the allure of the 24 to me. Thanks for the help.

No problem, different things for different folks. I just finally picked up my first model 24 this summer on the way home from vacation. A 1960's 24J-DL in 22LR-20ga.

The only reason I don't have more is I keep finding decent 99's to buy that are in the same price range as 24's. I'll take a 99 any time. grin

Probably a 24F, the successor to the 24V.

The synthetic stocks have low combS with quite a bit of a drop compared to the monte carlo style stocks on most 24V. I have 24Fs in 22H and 223 and would buy one in 30-30 if the price was in sync with the condition.

I have a couple hundred Savage 1899s and 99s, but I carry and shoot the 24s a lot more often.

I am surprized. After reading all your posts on cast bullets I can hardly believe you dont have a 24. I have watched your post for years and would have thought you would have at least one .It is hard for me to take advice on a 24 when all you think is 99. Come.on , have faith. There is a whole lot more that 99s.

Not trying to start a problem between savage lovers.
I love them too. It just seems that if we aren't fond of 99s we might as well be crazy.

Please don't take it the wrong way. Perhaps I was a bit abrupt, but I just never warmed to the 24's. It's not the 24's fault, I just realized early on in my early days of loonyism that I couldn't delve into every gun known to man, so I drew the line here and there and most of what Savage built that wasn't 1899/99's fell outside that line. Heck, I was well into adulthood before I opened the door to 99's!

As for centerfire 24's being ideal platforms for cast bullet experimentation- they may be so, but may not be so. The shotgun barrel tagging along underneath isn't appealing in that regard. During my decades long shotgun infatuation there wasn't room for single shots with a rifle barrel attached to them.

Don't fret, I'm not terribly enamored of Germanic drillings either!

Not being a collector in the true sense of the word, I'm not driven to acquire specimens of guns to fill a collection if they hold no interest for me outside of the purpose of filling that collection. Examples of that philosophy would be pretty much anything Savage that doesn't have a lever on it. An example would be Savage pistols: I'm a pistol shooter (kind of) not a collector, and as such I personally find the Savage pistol to be awkward ergonomically so even though they are dandy mechanisms I don't want one.

Yeah, I'm a strange duck!

I sold a lightly used .22 Hornet/20 ga (1999 production) for $470 a couple years back.

Have had many 24's , but never what to me is the holy grail, the 3030/20
First deer I killed was with a 22/410. Little slug did the job.
