I don't know what Federal uses but I'm another that uses Sierra. They shoot well and kill deer well.

Same here, but I also use the 150 gr Sierra Pro Hunter.

I looked down on 308’s until bought a Savage Hog Hunter to use with a suppressor. I loaded the 150 GameKings, was amazed at how well the little toy Savage shot, how little recoil it had, how well the 308 killed pigs. I have since changed my opinion. I find myself grabbing that rifle to use. All my Sakos, Kleinguenthers, 700’s, custom rifles are getting pissed off cause they are sitting in the safe. I bought a 99 in 308 too. It is a ton of fun to shoot also.

i have some 150 grain interlock in the american whitetail ammo to try with his rifle too. just thought one of you handloaders might know exactly what bullet is in the power shok 150 grain 308 win load. it doesn't look like a 150 grain speer hot cor due to i don't believe the hot cor has a cannelure and the bullet loaded in mine has copper all the way to the tip pretty much where hot cor's have a decent bit of exposed lead. the grand slam does have the cannelure is where i get my thought on the matter but i'm far from knowledgeable about this so i reached out.
thanks for the answers guys,
Big Ed

The presence or not of a cannelure isn't a reliable indicator. Nosler provides cannelured bullets to ammo manufacturers where the same ones handloaders get are smooth sided.

there ya go math i didn't know that in my ignorance of reloading. guess i just figured whatever they load for in loaded ammo was the same bullets you would get if rolling your own. well, it was both the presence of a cannalure AND the copper going all the way to the slightly pointed tip where as the hot cor has a good bit of lead exposed at the tip and no cannalure. school me men on this please as i self admitted my ignorance to the hand loading game.i'd just really like to know which speer bullet is loaded so i could expect performance either getting a passthrough or not.i know that both the hot cor and the grand slam are great bullets.
thanks again,
Big Ed

If I knew for sure which one I'd tell you.

Even if it is a Grand Slam that isn't a guarantee of an exit hole.

Yep, the 150gn Hornady flat base is a good solid performer in the .308. That would be my go to bullet.

I like the efficiency of a 150 gr TTSX. Put under the Varget or 4064 directly in the middle of the starting and max load on the chart. I put it in LC cases after match prepping them. Be Well, RZ

I thought it was the Fusion but if it is they would have that in the add copy, same for a grand slam so maybe it is another non retail bullet. I am partial to 150 BT in all of the 30 caliber cartridges I load for. The Hornaday is a good choice too. Just about any 150 will perform well at 308 velocities so hard to go wrong.

I also loaded 150gr. 30-30 bullets in 308 at slightly reduced velocity and they performed like premium bullets and were lethal on deer.

I load 130 Barnes for a 300 Savage. They kill pigs real fine, they might be an option.

My BIL has used his Mod 742/150 Sierra GK for almost 50 yrs on Texas deer/hogs. when I lived there, and loaded for other guy's 30-06s, I used the Hornady 150 ST, wicked! I only killed one deer with a 308 and it was with factory 150 corlokts. I later used the 165 NBT on an axis. My buddy out here also has right at 50yrs with a Browning BLR .308, also with 150 Corlokts, on everything, including bison! I don't care for/use a lot of Federal brass, but when I want to test/sight in a rifle, I also grab the Blue Box! Very good value and well balanced loads. Out here, hunters use them or the Fusion line as much or more than Winchester/Remington factory loads. Federal Premiums? Almost always worth the extra money too. Just that dang Federal brass can be so soft for hot loads or if one wants a lot of reloads from one case. An example of one picky guy! smile

well, i got the boys 308 win on close at 100 with the 150 blue box fed then for the heck of it tried some 150 bt's ala fed premium and the teeker liked em alot to the tune of .5" 3 shot group100yds repeatedly. so, thanks for all the thoughts but until the 150 bt doesn't give me what i want,as in penetration, i guess i stick with it for this season at least.
thanks again fellas,
Big Ed

When I get a new to me 308 I like the Federal Blue box 150 gr. I hunt whitetail with them a bit. But after I get cases out of the gun like 80 or more, I like to change to the 150 TTSX as I said earlier. But the 150 grn killed 10 hogs in TX last spring. No problem. Hope you guys kill lots of game with those loads in the Teeker. Be Well, Rusty

When considering a 150 grain bullet for use on deer in my 308 Win; I tend to focus on the Hornady Interlock, Speer Hot Core, and the Speer Grand Slam 15o grainers. I prefer flat based bullet because in my experience they are more consistent performers. Then I focus on the ballistic coefficients (BCs) of the individual bullet.

Bullet ----------------------------BC

Hornady Interlock .349
Speer Hot Core .389
Speer Grand Slam .295

I think any of the above will serve you well. I too like the Hornady interlock design!

For many years, I used a .308 M70 carbine loaded with 150 ballistic tips and Reloder 12. I never lost a deer with that combo. When Reloder 12 went away, I struggled to get the same accuracy.

Nowadays, I load 168 ballistic tips over Reloder 15, and it's accurate in several different .308 rifles. It has worked well on a number of deer that I have shot.
