We have had an excellent time for the corn harvest here in my part of the country. We're going into our fourth week of no rain and hot temps, and it has really dried the corn down, and allowed farmers to run non-stop. Yields have been good too. In-laws have been getting anywhere from 185-235 on theirs, but I do not know if that is dried bushels or not. I do know that the corn that has been shelled on my place made right at 200 dried bushels.

This is a pic made out one of my front windows of my neighbor shelling one of the fields here at home. You can see by the dust how dry it is. How's the harvest going in other places, or have they even started?

Been good harvest weather here too. Lots of corn and rice cut, with a few beans. Most farmers are disking their fields right behind the combine. Makes the stubble rot quicker. If the weather holds, they will float (land plane) a lot of the fields that they are planning to plant early next year. Lots of rice farmers wait for winter and roll the rice stubble into the mud. They also will flood fields to duck hunt and the duck will eat the red rice which is a problem in some fields. Heavy dockage on rice with red rice in it. I have not talked to my Brother in law to see about the yields. miles

Of course Iowa is behind south of us. Son Jake has been fighting rain on the fourth cutting of hay. Some corn to clean out of bins, and then chop silage. Going to be busy.

No corn being picked around here that I know of. Probably won't be long if it dries up.

If I remember correctly, when you hand shell corn it will test drier that when it's run through a combine. Or do I have that backwards? I used to take samples from several ears to the elevator and get it tested back when I farmed my own ground. Never had my own tester.

The big farmers will pick it and dry their own so they don't worry as much about the moisture.

Corn here is still green, starting to turn though.
We had a lot of rain this year, and it's warm.
Last two weeks have been dry, but no frosts yet.
90° yesterday, almo st 80 all week coming.
Dang yard looks more like late May than late September.
Has needed mowed every single week this summer.

What little survived the heavy spring rains here has been picked. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th replant fields are a ways off yet.
