So I bought a Henry Big Boy Steel .45 Colt back in the winter (more on the gun later). I was going to put a Peep sight on it and call it good, but then I ran up on a deal on a Vari X III 1.5-5x20 yesterday and bought it.
Now, that said, the 1.5-5x20 is going on my #1 .45-70, I'm wanting to take my M8 2.5x20 off the #1 and put it on the Henry.

Henry has a Talley made one piece unit on their website, but it says it will handle up to a 50mil obj. scope, which makes me think it'll be too high for my liking. EGW makes a picatinny rail for that model that would allow me to use low rings and give me a bit more latitude with scope placement (the M8 with it's short tube ALMOST doesn't have enough eye relief on the #1, having to be mounted out on the rib, I have to crane my neck a bit). If I went this route, I was just thinking good ol' Weaver detachable lows for rings.

Any opinions?

Potsy, I put a Weaver 1-3x20mm on my Henry BB with that integral mount/ring set-up from Henry. It's a Talley. It actually sits pretty low, maybe an1/8th inch daylight between factory iron and bottom of scope. I'd think it will work just fine. You're gonna really like that .45 Colt. Trust me.

Did this on a couple of 44 BBS’s

So I used the Talley for a 2.5x20 and its cool because the darn henry rail is too high for me. Why in the hell they cant have a marlin type rail sitting right on the receiver I have no clue. The talley is high but it sits well and looks better than the factory Frankenstein setup using rings.

On another I took a Marlin pictinny rail, the kind you can view down the center to see your irons if need be, I cut it and attached it to the rear holes and have a Holo sight on it. Its about 2 1/2” long and fits perfect. I touched up the cut with appliance paint.

A Marlin mount matches the henry rear holes but not front hole.

EGW and Ranger Point Precision both have low(er) rails for Henry Big Boys. Think I'm gonna roll the rail and Weavers as it'll give latitude and I may wanna put some other sort of optic (Red Dot type) on it at some point.
I also didn't know that Marbles made a tang sight for Henry's. Sorta made me wanna buy a Henry .22 just to put a Marble's Tang Sight on it!!

I took a couple of my rifles over to Ranger Point back when they were doing gun work. They are good folk but I didn’t wanna pay that much for a rail for the above purpose.

The other half of the rail worked on the back two holes of a Mossberg 500 so it was a 2-fer-1 red dot setup.

The Talley setup does look good with a scope though.

I’ve spent plenty of time overthinking things on a 75 yard (my uses) rifle

RifleTom, I PM'ed you. Many thanks!!!

Johnny, yeah, I'm pretty good at the whole "overthinking" thing. It often goes hand-in-hand with "overspending"............

I’ve played with everything and just a plain Marlin 336 30-30 does everything.

I used the factory Tally base / ring setup to mount a four power Leupold on my Henry Big Boy 327 Federal. Maybe not the prettiest setup, but it sure is hell for stout! I'm happy with it.
