Two part:
One for the dumptruck for the quarry so you can talk to scale house and loader operator. Size isn't an issue, just something cheap and reliable, no frills.

One for the Tacoma in the mountains, talk to buddies driving ahead on the trail. Needs to be small as possible but want something decent.

I have an $40 Cobra in my pickup. It can't hold a candle to the old Royce single side band I had in the 83 Olds. The Royce was about the size of a footlocker.

You might look into business band radios. There are some advantages.

This is what you want.

The 510 (or 520). Known as the simple durable solution.

Dunno. The electricians took care of that.
Dont forget, if you have a 24 volt system, you'll need a converter to 12v.

Been using these antennas for several years. Very easy to tune if it needs it at all. On my PU a tiny about 1/16" adjustment got the SWR well under 2.0, but it was right at 2.0 right out of the package which is acceptable. Easy to remove as necessary such as parking garages and drive throughs. Don't forget to measure the SWR out in the open away from buildings, trees, houses, etc.

I had this one in a Jeep. It was nice because the box sits under your seat and only the tuner/mic is on the dash. With a 4' whip antenna it did all I needed it to do.
It gets good reviews is why I bought mine.

That is a cool design NV. Looks super handy especially for ATV/UTV use.

Pro 520 (or 510) is a great little radio. Uniden makes one that ticks under the seat and uses the mike for everything. Look that way if space is tight. I have had uniden, cobra, and midland. Uniden has been the best for me.

That's probably the best question you can ask. I have not fiddled with CB since the middle 70s, but have more recent experience with commercial mobile 2-way. Your antenna setup will be crucial...the best receiver or transmitter is useless with a garbage co-ax and antenna. Get someone who knows what the hell they're doing to install it. The connector has to be right also, and that's where a lot of problems originate.
