How can I edit a for sale post once the item is sold.

If it's past the time limit to edit, you can't. You can post that it's sold so potential buyers know.

The general time limit to edit the original post is about 24 hours - then it locks, and can't be changed.

Posting a "Sold" in the thread is what most do.
