So I ran across a marlin 39a for sale today. SN indicates it was made in 1974, condition is good for its age. What are these things going for these days? Asking price is $460, sound fair? I'm not a big 22 guy but I am into nice firearms with wood on them.
Thanks guys

Yeah I looked them up on gunbroker and prices are all over the place. This one is at a little local shop, he was saying he could possible do a little better then asking price "like lower the price a bit". I just didn't wanna impulse buy myself into a mistake. I always go into transactions thinking can I get my money back if I need to sell it. Lol

$460 for a good condition 39a is a fair deal, and you will get your money back if you ever need to sell it.

I doubt you'll want to though.

I haven't seen one in my AO for the last few years for less than $600.

D Dial: Good for you!
I hope you stay happy with it.
I am looking for a "shooter grade" Marlin Model 39 for just that - shooting!
The several Marlin Model 39's I currently own are (in my opinion!) just to valuable to take out plinking or Varmint Hunting.
Marlin Model 39's are a bit difficult to come by these days.
Again, enjoy to the max.

That's awesome. They'd ask 650 for that here.

A great find!

That's a great find. I'm looking for one of those myself, although I'd prefer the Mountie. I'd have jumped all over than one as well. I have a '74 mountie now it's a superb .22 and I want another of similar vintage so I can give one to both of my sons. But wait, I have two grandsons now, so I guess I need 3 more! laugh

I'd like to see a picture if you get a chance.

Like Tikkanut, I'm a fan of the 39. This is my most recent acquisition...though it was a bit more than $460.

Yes sir, took mine out last weekend for some live-action pop-can shooting. My oldest daughter really likes this one.
