Anyone with much experience with the Remington 58s ? I picked up one in 20 gauge today, feels good. 28" modified. Has the shell selector for low / high . What i read online said they didn't hold up to high volume shooting but i have a thing for old shotguns.

Have some experience with a couple. Both a 12 and a 20 pointed and handled great for me. Both were bargain priced. Neither one worked worth a damn.

Replaced all springs and shined chambers and they were still iffy on whether they’d cycle anything but the heaviest loads reliably.

Remington didn’t have much good in the way of autoloaders between the M11 and the 1100 IMO. I have an itch for a small gauge 11-48 as a cheap in to the 28ga game but I’m scared to the point of certainty that if I buy one it’ll be a finicky POS. Good luck

Well that doesn't sound promising, i took it out and ran a couple shells through it no real test but they cycled at least. Hopefully I'll give it a better workout next week.

Pretty common to find the flat wire stainless spring in the magazine to be broken. The music wire replacements sold by Gun Parts Corp. work well. Be careful driving the pin out of the plastic separator so you don't break it. Mine was a 12 gauge and was very reliable when the selector was properly set and the spring was replaced.

I have a model 58 in 16 ga. It cycles well with target and hunting loads with the gas valve in the proper position. Only problems were 1) the stock cracked in the wrist so, be sure the stock bolt is tight and shoot on the H gas setting if it will cycle OK 2) the extractor broke but that is no big problem since that is the same part as used on millions of 870s and 1100s. I have also heard that they don't hold up to high volume shooting so I would avoid buying a target model but most field guns should be fine. Some of the parts can be hard to find but there are usually a lot of them listed on eBay. Have fun.
