More so than the 783, which ultimately does not sound too bad, at all, per the other guys, you got F'd on the transaction. A 700 243 ain't hard to locate and is a lot more rifle to start with. Good luck, be careful, and have fun.

Elliot,

don't let the fact that someone else doesn't care for the rifle. dissuade you from enjoying your purchase....

if an when you outgrow it ( if you ever do), you can always replace it with...

I hope you enjoy it and it gives you many many years of enjoyment and good service...

cheers and best regards...

Personally i will not own a newer remington unless it is a Sendero or a heavy varminter. Got tired of sending back 2 MOA guns and then telling me it is well within spec. Everybody worth a damn has an accuracy guaranty.

You should have just bought a Tikka and left that Remington {all Remingtons} junk on the shelf. That way you wouldn't have to rebuild the whole fuggin thing before you had a decent rifle.

It's ok, I wanted to buy a rifle caliber .243 as a start up gun. when I get used to it and understand what I like and dislike I will buy a real rifle. Didn't want to make a costly mistake. Thanks.

$260?

That is expensive for a piece of junk. I would easily opted for a blemished new 700. Not much thinking involved in that decision.

It shot awesome today, bolt loads cartridge easily and low recoil, the scope is not the greatest but gets the job done. Not bad at all, for a start up 4ifle I'm very happy with it. Thanks for asking Pymi. I guess when I get my next rifle I would know exactly what I want.

The loading port is rather tight, but that's about all I can gripe about. It is head and shoulders above the discontinued (thankfully) 710 / 715 / 770 series. THOSE were junk...

+1. The 783 is the late, lamented Marlin X7 series with the "styling" Remington seems to think an inexpensive gun must have. It's a solid economy rifle, and a good deal at $260.

The 710/770 series WAS junk.

Agree completely on the 710/770 Did not care for the Remington 798/799 rifles either, although my Interarms Mark X was built by the same company, Zastava. The Mark X was head and shoulders better than the 798/799.
