I wondered if I have enough barrel diameter to rebore from 243 to 9.3X62 or 358 Winchester? I have an Interarms MkX F/S in .243 It has a muzzle diameter of 0.552 I think. Wondered what is the rule for minimum barrel diameter? Be Well, RZ.

IIRC, his website had a minimum diameter calculation.

I don’t see it either.

In previous discussions here .200 above diameter of desired rebore is what has been stated.

I can't find it either but looking back in my notes I found .200 also.

Best give him a call.

Could shorten barrel a bit depending on taper and present length. Then you might have enough for a rebore.

He won't rebore that but Zastava made their 9.3x62 barrel the same as their .243, .270, and .30-06 barrels.

Indeed. My Zastava 9.3x62 I owned when I lived in Australia. I have a few rebores that Cliff LaBounty did and his rule was minimum .100" a side.

Dunno about that. I had JES rebore a Interarms MK X from 30-06 to 9.3x62 a couple years back.. As I recall the muzzle dia was pretty close to what the OP has. JES had no qualms about reboring it. His tune may have changed since he did the work for me.

FWIW, general rule of thumb is ~.100" on either side of the bore. In the OPs case it works out to about .093"

Do note that JES MAY have an issue or MAY charge slightly more to go from .243 to .366 (9.3mm). I know he hit me up for a few extra dollars (not a lot) when I had a .270 rebored to 9.3x62.

It seems to be heavy at this point. Might go the other way and be thumpy with the 9.3 rebore. Be Well, RZ.

He did a Brno 22 in 8x57 to 9.3x62 for me and is had a mighty thin barrel at the muzzle since the front sight is a wrap around the barrel and it is flush with the outside of the barrel so it reduces the barrels diameter a little more

You would have to stay with a short action with a .243 re-bore, so .358 Winchester would be my choice for a mid-range thumper. I believe you might have a better bullet selection in a .35 than in a 9.3, too.

It might be cheaper for you to have your 'smith order a barrel from Lothar Walther and fit it to your rifle.

I've bought 5 different Mauser barrels from LW, including a 9.3x62 that I put on an Interarms Mark X mannlicher.

I don't have a short action I don't think. It is an Interarms Mauser. I guess I will measure the distance between the bottom screws. Be Well, RZ

I have Interarms Mark Xs in 243, 260, 6.5x55, 7x57, 7.5x55, 30-06, 8x57, and 9.3x62. They feed fine, but I prefer to rebarrel them for cartridges with cases in the 55mm to 63mm range than those that are shorter. That said, the Mark X mannlicher in 260 is one of my favorite still-hunting rifles.

There's a guy selling Factory Zastava 9,3x62 barrels that will fit on that action. Shorten it to the same length as the .243 barrel, and replace the short follower with a standard length follower and you are good to go. I'd go this route if the rebore isn't feasible.

I too have used a ton of LW barrels but the Zastava will be a drop in contour wise saving a little work.

I was mistaken, I thought it was a short action. I guess I ASSUMEd. I still think that a .35 bore is the way to go....but that's just my $0.02.

RT have you ever looked for 9.3 bullets? The selection is extensive enough to be practical. And look at Hawk bullets if you want premium bullets. If not stay on the porch and comment on things you actually know something about. Probably won't be saying much, will you??? Be Well, RZ.

Well, my mistake, I was referring to the ability to use .357 pistol bullets as well as rifle bullets, so you are right, pat yourself on the back. Now, why do you think it's necessary to be a prick about it? Do you treat your friends this way?
