Saw a rack of Bergara B-14 HMR rifles yesterday and they look like they cover a lot of bases for an off the shelf long range rig without costing too awful much money, the ones I saw were priced at $899. Just handled one for a few minutes and it seemed like a well made rig. So, what's the consensus on Bergara in general as far as accuracy, reliability, quality of build and so forth?

Waiting on the long action 300 WM. Looks like 308, 22250 and of course 6.5 are on the shelves for us in LH. Not sure the Long Action will ever see the light of day for us. I've followed along on various posts....waiting for the Southpaws. I've not stumbled across and posts of Lemons or anyone disappointed.
Please God, give me some good tags this year....

I bought a lightly-used HMR here on the classifieds a couple years back (6.5CM). I had a spare Timney 700 trigger, so I swapped it in, and I picked up some 140gr Hornady Black HPBT factory loads. It shoots those around 3/4MOA at 2,650fps or so. It shoots my 143ELD-X handloads closer to 1/2MOA at 2,760fps. The design seems like an improved 700, and fit/finish is good. The action is slick and well thought out. I also like the HMR stock for its sturdy construction and adjustability, but I know stock fit is subjective. I've since swapped the Burris for a 3-12 Bushnell LRTSi, and it makes for a fairly useful package.
Now with even more aplomb

Thanks, I knew they took Model 700 scope bases but didn't realize you could use a 700 trigger as well.

I came across a gently used Bergara Ridge in 300WM with a brake and had it for about 15 months. In short 1.3 inch groups at 250 yards. My POI changes with brand of brass by at least an inch, so no more mixed brass for reloading. It is heavier than most off the shelf rifles, but between the brake and the weight it shoots like a much smaller caliber. Just make sure to have plugs and/or muffs on before pulling the trigger. I'm looking to get another Ridge in the near future. I've heard of a few accuracy issues from the factory and Bergara has taken care of the issues every time, even sending a new rifle in one case I read...just take a few weeks time.

I didn't. It was the Bergara Timber and it was too chunky for my tastes.

I’ll repeat myself: it’s a better 700 than a 700.

Good friend has one in 6.5 Cr and it easily rings a 10" plate repeatedly at 1k with factory Hornady ELD's, dependably accurate right out of the box. Nearly impossible to build one for that and have that level of performance....
