Anyone have deer or elk hunting experience with the 7mm RM using the Sierra 7mm GKs in 160 or 175 grains?

Yes the 160 hollow point did quite well on deer out of my 7 mag, no concerns about using it on deer. the 160 grain soft point tended to come apart quite easily and obviously would not penetrate much. Never used either bullet on elk.
In a 280AI the 160 accubond was outstanding on deer.

I killed a few elk with the 175 gr GK when I had my7 mags. Fine if the elk were out there aways, but a little too fast for closer shots.I switched to Partitions. There are better bullets out there now for magnum velocities
If God wanted you to walk and carry things on your back, He would not have invented stirrups and pack saddles

saddlesore- I'm in agreement as I've used Barnes and Partitions exclusively for elk for a good while without complaint. Just curious about the Sierras. I've seen exceptional accuracy with the 160 Sierra boat tail soft point. Sierra's book mentions that many of the heavier bullets in various calibers have heavier jackets, but I've had no experience with them on game; just wondered if others had.

Seen a 180 Lapua Scenar wreck deer, elk and black bears. Super easy to get to shoot and deadly on game. Haven't used any Sierras lately.

My family, here in the South, has killed 300+ white tails with the 160g Sierra btsp in 7 mags. We have NEVER had any problems but dead right there deer.
We always had compete penetration from all angles.
Expect very good accuracy.
We shot two loads:
61.0g of IMR 4831= 2950
61.0g of IMR 4350=3000
Cousins, uncles, brothers, Dad refer this bullet as the no running deer bullet.
The 160g BTHP is a good bit tougher than the 160g BTSP which is why we opted for the btsp.
We found a load with the 175g Sierra btsp of 62.5g of R#22 with a cci 250 in Rem brass that put the bullets in the same hole in a remington 700, velocity in the 26" well used barrel is 2850 fps. R#26 is reported to get 3000 but this powder is very scarce at the moment.
We hunt out of ladder stands, above ground blinds, tower stands, and climbers. I have shot at least a dozen bucks directly under my stand with me being 30' up a tree, so no worries on close shots. I killed one nice buck at 10' away when he ran into my ground blind after hearing me grunt and rattle with no problems.
Elk are not hard to kill if hit right. Most of the cow elk that I shot were with a 243 loaded with 100g Partitions. I killed two big bulls with the 140g Nosler ballistic tips right after they first came out, 65.5g of IMR 4350 in a 7 Mag. Those two bulls dropped on the spot. Later on, we found out from what we read that the nosler ballistic tips blow up on the surface, but I am still shooting the remants of that first 20 boxes that I purchased way back when....they just keep killing real good.
Hunting partner and I killed combo bull and cows with a 7x57 loaded with 140g Sierra pro hunters in the late 70's over a number of years, none were long shots.
For me and my family that rarely ever shoots over 300 yards, the 160g sierra btsp is one of the finest bullets ever made for a 7 Mag for deer and hogs.
We have one renegade in the family that loads the 150g sierra pro hunter in his 7 Mag with 63.0g of IMR 4350, he does not have any problems with deer running off either.

The 175 was the bullet I used in the early 90's on both deer and elk and I had no complaints. I used a lighter load of around 2700-2800 fps. No issues with penetration or accuracy. I never recovered a bullet, all pass throughs even on the elk,

A friend of mine uses that bullet. He put a really bad shot on a huge cow at just under 200 yards. It knocked her down but she got up and put some distance between us but we found her dead. That bullet would have done its job if shot placement was better. Maybe take a gander at the Hornady Eldx also. Prices should be close.

I use Sierra Game Kings in many different calibers and have never had an issue on deer or elk. One of my favorite bullets. For elk in 7mm go with 175 gr sbt and never look back. I just don't know how we killed elk before so call premium bullets came out.
