I'll be leaving Pennsylvania this Friday for our trip to Newfoundland. This is my 5th time up. Any recommendations for a good whiskey to try that I can't get in the US? I've have Gibson's Finest a few times and enjoy it, but open to suggestions. I'm sure I'll have some Screech too, but won't be drinking any Black Horse beer.....

You might want to check out Canadian Club 100% rye whiskey. Why would you recommend that rotgut? You dislike Americans? To the OP. If you like Gibsons you should try 40 Creek Whiskey. Smooth like Gibsons but a little sweeter.

I personally prefer Forty Creek or Crown Royal Black, but if you are feeling cheap, then Canadian Club Classic 12 Year, or Alberta Premium are always good budget options.
Just out of curiosity, which Whiskey did you end up choosing?
Hope the brunswicks treated ya good and you enjoyed your trip, buddy!

What has carrying pistols got to do with drinking whiskey and beer? Maybe, if you're drunk, you should leave you guns at home, son. Don't take your guns to town. I have no opinion on beer or whiskey. Last drink I had was on May 1st, 1982. Got some sidearms though.

You really should take note, of other peoples comments. You know, read first, think deeply, engage your faculties & then realize that your opinion is wrong ! Read more, definitely post less.

Grin Perhaps it's because, (it actually saddens me to say it), the once great America has changed & not for the better. You have become a population riddled with greed & indulgence, more apt to "mouthing off" & arrogance, than actually doing something about the sorry situation. You may profess being a Republican, but your lack of rational thought & absolute arrogance is liberal slanted ! Perhaps you should switch allegiances, so you fit in better ?

>hey 99 great use of words how long did that take you to think, spell and post that ? like i said Canadian WHISKEY is decent, Canadian beer is not very tasty. Canada has way more Liberals than America does just look at Canada`s last vote this fall 2019 ? >you people voted in again the same liberal moron Trudeau ? i will still be voting REPUBLICAN and Donald Trump will win the next American Presidential Election in 2020. so our gun laws will still be the same or better with our same Republican President Donald Trump.

I'd advise our friend Pete, to ease up, and not insult the great nation of Canada. I was born, and raised in Iowa.
NW Ontario is my second home, I first enjoyed beautiful Wabigoon Lake in 1949.
Our good friend Dwayne has bestowed honorary Cunuckship on me!

Here's a true story, which has something to do with this thread, but is not my opinion on the relative merits of American and Canadian beer:
My wife and I have hunted quite a bit in Alberta, both for waterfowl and big game, with an outfitting family up among the aspen parklands. The last time we went after waterfowl, maybe 3-4 years ago, and they asked us to pick up around $150 worth of Coors beer, because one of their other clients had brought some the year before, and they really liked it. So we looked around and found the best deal was at Walmart, around $20 for 30-can cases. We bought eight cases and took 'em along when we drove up, in two big coolers we planned to fill with ducks and geese for the trip back. The Canadian customs guys were too concerned over our shotguns and Labrador retriever to ask if we had any alcoholic beverages, so we didn't even have to pay duty.
Our outfitter friends were really grateful, but apparently one reason they really like Coors is is costs a hell of a lot less in Montana than Canadian beer costs in Alberta! However, we insisted on giving it to them, because we came back with a bunch of birds!
“Montana seems to me to be what a small boy would think Texas is like from hearing Texans.” John Steinbeck

No, 2 terms of Obummer, 2 good terms of GWB, 2 terms of Clingon !
Seems everybody makes the mistake of thinking 1 term isn't enough, or was just a little mistake !
I do not want to dwell on "Mr Dress up", our very best drama teacher !

Years ago, we went bear hunting up past Thunder Bay in Ontario. We didn't even have any beer. But, an OPP (Ontario Provincial Police) pulled us over. I forget why. He gave us a warning. But, subjected us to a heated rant about how much he hated Americans, because among other reasons "They won't even buy their beer here!"

I'm not much on Canadian Whiskey. I like good scotch but being from Texas I'm more of a Bourbon-Tennessee sour mash lover. My favorite is Jack Danials. They pissed me off when they lowered the proof in two steps down from 90 to 86 then all the way down to 80. That caused me to quit it for about 15 years but I've finally gotten back to it. It's still pretty good even at that candy ass level.
I also drink a little Kentucky Bourbon. Everything from Woodford Reserve to Wild Turkey and a few in between is great for me. Knob Creek is one of my favorites. At 100 proof it's just right. If I want to get real fancy I'll go with some Eagle Rare or some Wild Turkey Rare Breed. But there's so many excellent bourbons when I go in a liquor store I'm more like a kid in a candy store.
What goes up must come down, what goes around comes around, there's no free lunch. Trump's comin' back, get over it!

Alberta Springs, Glen Breton and 40 Creeks are all excellent suggestions.
If you have broad ranging ideas about what is a good beer there are tons of micro breweries in Canada with a huge range of flavours and styles
