All in the eye of the beholder. I know where there's a few Marlin Xs on the shelf, or was, if anyone is looking.

I indicated in a 783 action stripped. The action is machined very, very true. Action face was darn near perfect, threads did not need chasing.
Recoil lug is very uniform thickness, better than any 700 I have ever checked. 700's are not machined this true. I examined the bore on the factory gun with a hawkeye bore scope, and was surprised at how good the barrel is. The Limbsaver recoil pad is really a nice one, I think it is an Air Tec. The factory stock has a completely freefloated barrel. I hate the plastic trigger guard. The thick steel mag box is impressive.

I re sprung the trigger, it is 1.0 lb now.

I made a jig fixture to turn down the bolt handle and put a custom bolt knob on it.

Lock time on the 783 is very, very fast.

I put a Krieger, 8 twist, chambered in 6.5 creed with .149 Freebore barrel on the action, 28" long, light palma contour with a Harrells tactical muzzle break. Barrel was freefloated to the recoil lug. I did not use the barrel nut on the Krieger barrel, standard shoulder.

Next put on a Boyd's laminated stock, bedded the action, free floated the barrel channel.

I load at the rifle range and first trip with 140g Hornady bthp, I was shooting 1/4" groups and less with H4350 and Hornady brass at 100 yards, scope is a Sightron III, 10x-50.

Be advised that this sample of one is incredible, I bought another. The weak link is the trigger has to be re sprung at this time.

You are surely not going to be envied for pulling up to the rifle range with a custom 783, right up till you start pulling the trigger. The very small 300 yard(sub 1" groups) had several guys at the rifle range scratching their head.

ON the next rifle like this, the only thing I would do differently would be to use a .129 freebore reamer vs a .149 freebore reamer. I have never shot factory loads.

I did make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, but it is still a Sow's Ear in terms of general perception.

Pride of ownership vs Practical application.....what ever floats your boat

I just can't see how people can't see these rifles being worth the sub-$300 asking price. On sales, they've been had for much less. I am thinking of building my boys some rifles they can grow in to.

Haters gonna hate. The used market on this kinda stuff is even better. I’ve got $150 in a RAR...

The beauty of these entry level rifles is when short attention spanned millennials buy them and move onto to the next hip thing 20 minutes.

Funny that they went all out on the TG though.

$350 783 HB 6.5 CM
$300 SWFA 6x MQ
$35 SWFA rings

$685

I’d be willing to bet you could piss a lot of guys off with that rig.

Hope quality does not drop off when people start to catch on. They are machined very well.

I have one, went shooting the other day and it was all good, no complaint here. One thing about this place, everyone has a strong opinion about what they have, what they don't have and what the Jealous about. Some don't even have a constructive criticism, just straight out hateful comments.

As per the Marlins were. Makes sense. Thanks.

How about a threaded 16.5" heavy Creedmeister for $380ish?

saw a 783 with a wood stock, matt sheen on it...

it actually really made it a much nicer looking rifle...

saw it at a Sportsman's Warehouse in Albany Oregon...

$399..00

Yah, and the forearm is not scalloped. Might have to get two, to end up with a wood-stocked threaded Creed.
