I'm tired. LOL. I can't for the life think of the combo ring base Mickey put on my Rem 660 he rebarreled years ago.
Finally got to shooting it. AL I know for sure. But I"m bottomed out for wind and need a bit more. One piece common name all AL mounts.
What do you do with these? Can't shim em not enough room in the rings right?
Normally I'd be thinking since its on a mountain type gun, just move over to the AL weaver bases and rings but then they won't be adjustable windage either.
Don't really want steel or I"d go Burris pos align or whatever they are now.
I'm going to keep shooting trying for load work in the meantime but will have to sort that out at some point for sure. Zeiss Conquest or Terra on top, don't recall which, but thats not the issue. And I like the Z glass I have laying around as spares so not going to buy another scope instead.
Thanks, Jeff

Are you referring to the Leupold STDs? They're the Redfield JR style.... IIRC, but I'm tired two...

Like this STD? Or maybe Dual Dovetail? Redfield SR? EGW Rail?

Talley is whats on there. No ability to adjust windage.
No way to shim? I don't think so but I've never shimmed.
Don't want more weight on the gun. Stock is already heavier than I'd like.
What is the solution.
Thanks, Jeff

If you can live with the ugly, here is a suggestion: http://www.egwguns.com/scope-mounts...ny-rail-scope-mount-20-moa-ambidextrous/Add Burris Signature rings for more.

A set of Weaver aluminum bases and Burris Signature Zee rings would give you the ability to correct the windage by using their off-set inserts. The downside is that the combo will be probably be an ounce or so heavier than your Talley's.

IIRC the Burris rings don't want to get tight on weaver bases? Maybe they don't want to get tight on the picatinny rails... I forget.
Good solutions, I was too tired to try to think about solutions last night.
An ounce or so ain't gonna kill me.
And I'm not averse to a one piece base either. But not really needed

One piece Al rail and try it. Go to Signature rings if needed. They'll work on Picatinny or Weaver bases...
. Question, does your rifle have 2 holes or one on the rear bridge?
Don't know if shimming up one side of a base will get you a little but it could. Might take a little lapping. But, a one piece base, even if you have 4 holes now, should get you aligned if your scope is good.

And I'm not averse to a one piece base either. But not really needed I have some of the Burris Signature Zee rings installed on Weaver bases with no issues. I did get a set of used ones once that had been installed on a wider base of some sort, they did not snug down enough to suit me so I put them into a vise and gently squeezed the clamping portion at the base of the rings a little closer together until they were just a bit snug when sliding them on. I have never had that issue with new ones.

I’ve got a set of Burris zee signatures on Leupold steel weaver spec cross slot bases on a 700, a set of Burris XTR bases and XTR signatures on another. The first setup is lighter and lower.

Going to check all your suggestions when I have time to play with the 284 again.
I know I put the pos align or whatever on top of an AR flat top. Was not happy with what I had to do to snug em. Bothered me that the screws might not snug em enough but finally got it done.
At least I currently don't have issues with my other guide backup rifle, 458... Yet... LOL.

I'm a huge fan of the Burris signature rings. I put them on all my rifles, adjust them "externally" to within 5 inches or so from the bullseye, then fine tune with the windage/elevation. Great product.

Heck, gotta have 2 holes on each talley now since its 2 separate pieces. LOL Well. Have heard it done with one screw in the rear. (sounds bad!). Even a GoodGuy could mess up D&T making the forth hole. Taking a 4-hole one piece rail or mount for the modern Seven to locate the forth hole is pretty good, better than using a two-hole rear two piecer to locate from I'd think. Just for chits I'll mention a brand new scope I have that won't center up. Definitely a scope issue in my case. Good luck.

interesting on the new scope issue. Hate those issues.
Not overly happy the conquest line went away. Good scopes, good warranties etc...
