I have a 788 in 308 that is very difficult to extract brass, the loads I am shooting are not near max per loading book. Gun shoots very good but just don't expect to get off a fast second shot. It is a 308 Win and the loads range from 43 grains to 46 grs of RL-15 with a 150 gr Hornady SP #3031. I purchased the gun used about 2 months ago. What is your guess about the problem. Thanks Daniel

Is the chamber bright and shiny clean? Blacken a cartridge case with a sharpy and cycle it, any gouges?

might need a new extractor, good luck finding one, your best bet is have a ar15 type extractor installed

Try a box of factory ammo just to eliminate that variable.

Clemson, that is what I did & it led me to the problem. Headspace (BTE type) Between the ears. I transposed the last 2 digits in the COAL information from the Lyman manual. The last two digits are .x35 and I loaded .x53. fixed that and seems ok.
Now for a second question, Why is one row of the lugs different from the other 2? One row is pointed, other 2 are square.
