I have the opportunity to pick up a new Rem XCR II In 30-06 for a pretty good price. There are’t too many threads on the XCR. What is your experience with the rifle? Accuracy, finish wear, troubles?

Same as any 700 but better corrosion resistance as advertised. Good stuff imo.

I passed on one in 375HH a few years ago, I really regret not grabbing it while I had the chance.

Had one in 7RM and really liked it.

The one I laid hands on is smooth, and the trigger is nice. I would definitely put it in a new stock. I’ve read so many complaints about Remington in the past 9-10 years, though, I’m hesitant to pick up a new one. I’m torn between the XCR and a Tikka in 30-06.

I have a 30+ year old Remington that has not given me any problems, but I also have a Tikka in 7-08 that is great too.

Had 2 and finish flaked off both rather easily. Both were very accurate. One was a 308 and the other a 338RUM. The stock is garbage.

Scratches easily or there were literally flakes coming off? If flakes do you have any pictures?

I have one in 338 win mag. I don’t shoot it much but seams like a good rifle.

I like them. I still want one in 338 RUM. I missed one for $650 by about 5 minutes....still makes me cry.

A lot of these were involved in the trigger recall. I’d buy it, slap a Timney or Trigger Tech in it, and enjoy.

Big flakes were coming off, oddly it did not scratch easily, maybe I had a bad application job but it was a sample of 2. Flakes coming off the action area of both not the barrel.

That’s nice. Did you have the bolt Cerakoted after the fluting and bolt knob? Is that Karl’s work? Also, it appears the end of the barrel has changed between 16bore’s picture and yours.

I own one in 30/06 that sits in a bell and carlson medalist that shoots sub moa. Very nice rifle imo.

Yes Kampfeld did the bolt fluting, bolt knob and cerakote. I added the trigger tech and lightweight firing pin assembly.

Yes that was tape at the end of the barrel.

I bought one new in 270 w and was less than impressed with the stock. So I put it in a edge and put in a timney trigger and suddenly
I had my favorite deer rifle ever. I wish Remington would have had Offered it in 7mm08. I would have bought it. But I am happy with my 270.

XCR II in 375

Great rifles, I have one 300 win mag.

Every 700 I’ve looked at equals whatever the price of the rifle is plus $$ for a stock and $$ for a trigger. That’s why I bought a Christensen Arms Mesa, it’s basically the same thing as a XCR with the stock and trigger already upgraded as well as the barrel being threaded or the option to run the muzzle break.

Check the chamber for that finish flaking off. Causes roughness on the fired brass.

I didn't either, until I had 7mm rem mag brass that looked like a dry lakebed.

Well, here it is. After 100 passes of JB bore paste in the barrel, and 30 rounds at the range, it settled down to 3/4" with Federal 180 grain Partitions. It's wearing a Seekins pic rail, Warne Mountain Tech rings, and a Meopta Meopro 3-9x42. The eye relief and fat power ring necessitate mounting the rear ring over the ejection port at the height you see. It JUST clears the pic rail. I have a Grayboe stock that should come in today. Surprisingly little recoil. Before buying it, I mentioned I don't want to purchase a new rifle and then have to send it in for a trigger recall, so they put in a new Timney for free. I like the balance of the 24" barrel. I'm very pleased.

Did it need it, or is that your standard procedure?

It's just something I do with a new rifle. An Everyman's lapping.

I just mounted it in the Grayboe Outlander. It's a nice looking stock, and solid. However, it has a very large barrel channel. It's also quite a bit heavier than I anticipated--much more than the tupperware stock.

condition yellow - that is one obviously free floated barrel. i couldn't handle that gap, but if it pleases you that's all that matters.

Good job getting rid of that POS factory stock.

I’ve returned the Grayboe stock. I can’t abide the barrel channel, even if it is a well made stock.

McMillan Classic is the way to roll, imho.

It seems every road leads to the McMillan ...

Mine has a Ti stock with opened up barrel channel. Works great.
