Deer opener starts here Saturday. I’ve got an empty freezer and tired of buying meat; however the forecast of 93 and pool repairs has me most likely sitting out. Anybody else sitting out the openers? Tough to do even at 40, still get excited. I’ll probably sneak out for an hour or so in evening 😁

I’m not overly excited about TN opening day weather myself. I’m going to hunt water holes a couple hours in the am.

That’s probably a better idea than an evening sit...

Our lease is bone dry but hopefully I can find one around water behind the house Saturday morning.

Evening are out for me right now.

Next weekend looks good right now. I’m sure that will change, TN weather needs updated about every 7 minutes to be remotely accurate.

I'm right there with you Tom... Think I'm gonna hold off just a bit too.
I keep trying to tell myself that it wouldn't be so bad for just a couple of hours in the morning. But then I start to think, what if I stick something? I really don't feel like dealing with that in these temps.

How are the acorns in your area? Not found any where I am hunting yet.

I will be missing opening, because my niece is having a birthday. My brother died a few years back and I kinda fill in for him on such occasions. Normally, I would feel bad about missing opening but with this heat, heck I would rather go to the party anyway. Might go Sunday afternoon....but may not. No rush this year. It is just too darn hot.

As for acorns, there are tons on the trees here in Southern/Middle Tn but have yet to see any dropping.

Archery has been open here since September 1st.

I'll likely start in mid October, once the temps are more suited/conducive to the "after party".

Seems like a good year overall for all nuts...acorns, beechnuts, etc. Im at 1200' and from what I've been reading the last couple years is that acorn crops is largely based on elevation. One year they will be great in areas 3000-4000' and not so good in other areas. Other years they are good down low, not so good in the mountains, etc.

We are loaded with acorns and hickory nuts. I did a quick scout/squirrel hunt this evening. Saw 4 deer and killed a couple squirrels in just over and hour.

I’ve been doing the same, took my daughter on her first squirrel hunt last weekend, nuts about everywhere we looked. Hopefully they are still dropping in mid-late October.

We have a 10-day antlerless whitetail season that runs 10/01 thru 10/10.

There hasn't been any grain harvest yet, so the deer will be hard to see and difficult to get to in most cases.

A deer or bull will almost always go to water before he feeds. After laying in the shade all day on a hot day the only thing he can think about is water. And if he is thirsty enough, he may make a mistake and get up to water before it is pitch dark.

Evening the best time to catch a buck or a bull at water...

Bow season opened Oct 1 and squirrel season opens Oct 5. In the mid 90's, too hot to hunt. Gonna give it a couple of weeks and see what the weather is then.

Our archery opener in NC was Sept 7. Most of my sits so far have been high 80s or low 90s, but have seen deer every time. Today it’s finally cooled off, supposed to be low 70s when I get out this evening. Muzzleloader season is already open and firearms starts next Saturday.

Plenty of acorns, makes hunting tough.
