Good evening fellas. Just wondering what bullet federal uses in their 308 win 150 grain power shok ammo? I figured it was a Speer hot-cor but mine has the jacket material almost all the way to the tip and their is a cannalure ring and looks more like a Speer grand slam. Anybody know for sure? Planning on either using this or Hornady interlock also in 150 grain for my sons tikka t3x superlite this year for deer hunting. Just wondering what y’all that know bullet components thought about it.
Thanks,
Big Ed

No idea what they use but any 150 grain out there will kill a deer with authority. Ed k

Ha! I hear ya erk. Just wondering what they are so I can gauge what kinda performance I can expect. Either the hot-cor or grand slam will be tits as they both will give me the penetration I want for exit wounds and good blood trails
with the grand slam being a sure bet for an exit wound.
Thanks,
Ed

Like ERK, I can't say what bullet they use in the Power Shok but we've killed a lot of deer and hogs on our place with the various lower-end factory Federal 308 loads. They always work. The Hornady Interlock also works well for us and always has. No shortage of good, inexpensive factory loads for the common chamberings these days.

Something quaint & familiar to me when I carry a 308 afield.

At one point they were using Speer bullets, but that was a long time ago. They are both owned by ATK, so maybe that's still the case.
Federal does make some of their own bullets in house, as an example they make the bullets in their Fusion line themselves.

If you are looking for a 150gr bullet for killing deer, Speer's work fine. Speer flat base bullets are one of the easiest to work with when it comes to getting good hunting quality groups out of hunting rifles. The 150gr Nosler Ballistic tip's another fine deer slayer.

Any of the Speer 150gr bullets out of a .308 will do that for you on deer.

I use 150 Sierra gamekings. I tried them when bullets were hard to get, accurate and quick killers on deer and pigs

Ed,
I've shot the 308 for more than 40 years, and have shot game with a number of different bullets in that cartridge. Because of the moderate velocities that the 308 produces, any of the cup and core bullets will certainly perform more than satisfactorily on mid-sized game, be they Federal, Speer, Hornady, Sierra, or whatever. For your son, whichever 150-gr. bullet his gun shoots accurately is the one I'd go with.

Since this is the Big Game Reloading section if you ever have a hankering for something both accurate, different and potent, try the Barnes 130 grain TTSX over 50+ grains or so of Ramshot TAC powder, and the primer of your choice. This load will yield better than 3100 FPS in any 308 barrel 20" or longer. As they say work up from below......

I have used the 150 Interlock, loaded to a little over 2900 fps, to kill quite a few deer. It kills as well as anything out there. Speer does just as well. If the ammo shoots well, don't worry about which bullet is in it. For the price, it is hard to beat the Hornady Whitetail ammo. Most rifles that I have seen it used in, really liked it. As others have said, about any 150-grain bullet will kill deer just fine.

thanks men and keep the thought coming please. imma test my sons tikka with the federal power shok, which now after studying pics of bullets i think they are speer grandslams due to the cannalure ring which the fusion nor hot cor have, hornady interlock and nosler ballistic tip and see whats what as far as accuracy. then decide as i belive all of my picks should give me my desired exit wound with behind the shoulder and maybe even a front axle/shoulder shot.

Maybe closer to the old Mag Tip than the Grand Slam.

All of my 308's liked 150gr Hornady flat base interlocks.. You don't really need anything fancy/expensive in the 308 to kill a deer.... or like Brad said, even elk. The old winchester power points also work very well...

The last few I've killed with .308 and -06 have been with 150 Pro Hunters. No drama.
