Exceptionally rare left-hand bolt action rifle for sale. J. Jongmans, manufactured 1982 in New Zealand. 7mm-08. Reportedly a total of less than 500 rifles were created by this custom builder, with the number of LH actions unknown. Almost all are still in New Zealand and Australia. Octagonal barrel, 22 inches. Tang safety, wide trigger face and adjustable. 14.75 inch LOP. Factory bases/rings. Good shooter. Not a safe queen... has minor marrs in the figured NZ walnut, a shiny floor plate, and killed a 285 yd. Montana pronghorn last season. Asking $3,900. If you pay full price and insurance, I'll pay for USPS Priority shipping. Seller is not an FFL, so your FFL will need to be willing to accept shipment from me with picture ID. Or purchase FTF in western Montana. Please PM me with questions and for more pics.
I've had a couple questions about the rifle and the maker.
The mag capacity is 4 +1, and the bore is in excellent condition. And those are the maker's custom scope base/rings on the rifle. I'd include the Leupold scope at full price.
Jongmans was an engineer and emigrant to New Zealand from the Netherlands, and quite innovative. Not only was he chambering the 7mm-08 cartridge in the South Pacific just a year after it’s adoption by Remington, but his action design also displays entirely innovative features like a hardened replaceable breech ring (a design invented by Jongman and later picked up by Accuracy International in their sniper systems). Competent armorers can replace the ring instead of the entire action if the lug seats should ever significantly wear.
I spoke to an outfitter in NZ who spoke very highly of the builder. Mr Jongmans is deceased but the quality of his rifles is outstanding. Bump for a great rifle in a great caliber.
