Really went a little too rambunctious this year and now its time to pay the Piper. Found one made of 5mm stainless on a site called cardi.com and wondering how 5mm of stainless will hold up. And yes I'm a dumb-ass, just looking for input and other ideas.

Been there myself with my 2017. The factory skid plate, really isn't one. More like a brush guard, for stuff like sage brush from punching a hole in your radiator if you back up over it.

I went with the RCI. As a bonus, oil filter changes are easier. Once installed, you don't need to remove the skid plate.

I did my first oil change on my new 2020. What a pain in the butt. Have to break out the impact wrench and sockets (two different sizes no less) to drop the skid plate to drop the oil filter.

I think you're being generous calling that thin sheet metal a brush guard.
